Track Day vids and photos
The porsche club had another track day yesterday.. I brought the camera out this time along with a co-pilot who was willing to act as a tripod
The weather was wonderful and the turnout was great.. Thanks to soloracer951 for initially inviting me out to these things...
Max actually came out to this track day, after trying to convince him over and over that this was much more enjoyable than drag racing... I think in the end we converted Max into wanting to become a wanna be roadracer
86J brought his red NA FC out to run again as well... there is nothing more humbling than to have your 400hp T2 get beat by a stock NA
... I'm gonna wire my wastegate wide open next time and see if the car is easier to handle in the turns.. smirk..
Anyhow, here are a few vids that were shot as well as a few pics for your enjoyment..
Vid #1 - In car footage of one of my runs

Vid #2 - In car footage of Max in his GX (ricer with t2 hood)

I gotta say, its alot more fun than I ever would've thought...I cant wait to go again actually..
I am going to focus my GX build up for this kinda stuff, I really think my TII is not the best setup for that kinda stuff..
Next time I will have the Yokohama A-520's on along with camber plates and not the hankook all-seasons..
..
My first runs was a tire squealing 144, then a drifting 140, then a 139 in the light of dusk..
Are alll road courses built around a timing of about 1 minute then as an ultimate run?..Or does it just seem that way.. I kinda see why Time Attack is so big in Japan, that kinda of racing just against the clock is a hell of alot of fun..Max

Thanks Chris! Glad to see you guys come out and "represent"
Sorry eoph but with the number of cars we had show up and the fact you were fairly late to the party and missed the drivers meeting and parade lap we just couldn't let you on. Make it earlier next time and you should be good to go.
I haven't had the chance to run myself yet as I am the organizer for the Porsche Club which means I have to bring all the gear & refreshments, setup and run the timing equipment, help keep track of who has signed the waivers, etc. Funny thing is that if I get a chance to run next time I'll probably bring the FD instead of the 951.
Max: The timing is actually in total seconds which means your first run was one hundred fourty seconds (or right around 2 mins 20 seconds). Don't ask me why it's that way. Doesn't matter as long as everyone is timed the same way. If I remember right in Solo 1 I was taking 1:45 for a full lap in my T2 and there were some really good drivers in Integra Type R's running in the 1:29 to 1:31 range. Really fast cars were in the high teens to low twenties. That is if I recall correctly - which after 5 years is probably not the case.
86J: I'm sure Chris feels WAAAAAY better now knowing how modded your car is.

Why don't you try converting them quick and dirty using windows movie maker? worked for me ... I'm actually interested in seeing that video you took my my launch at the start of the session again...
And yes.. You are a better driver than me

I just thought about it for a second and the Solo 1 times were most likely 2:45, 2:29 and 2:31 respectively. The reason I say this is the guys at the Porsche club event were doing 1 lap of the south end in around 70 seconds. It only stands to reason that the full track would be at least twice as long.

Here are some of the pics and vids I took at this event. I have some from the other track session as well.

And the reason why I was so late to the track and also glad I took the daily driver instead of the TII, only to find out there were so many 7s at the track. *sigh*

Some vids,

That's all I had time to re-encode. Might see some more later if there is interest.
Glad I came out and got to meet some new 7 owners.

watching 86j's and my in car videos side by side, I can definitely tell where I lose alot of time .. basically I was slowing down into turn #1 too soon and again, slowing down too soon as I approached the pylons... not to mention, 86J definitely has a smoother driving style than me ...
Next track day, I'll better my time by at least 2 seconds, or I'll run off into the fields trying..

Wow, I'm really sorry missed this. Sounds like it woulda been a blast. As well, sounds like a few of you got a taste for ripping around a road course. (Max, you thought the T2 was complete... Maybe it's time for brakes and rubber)

86J is smoother which means he's carrying more speed through the corners. A big part of that is that he is hitting a better line than you are. Notice how he's closer on the curb on turn 1 and the transition from turn 3 to turn 4. I think you can pick up quite a bit a time through the front section.
Oh, and Graham we would understand you missing the track event to hang with the new girlfriend due to the "bush before buds" law. However, you were out playing soccer instead which leads me to believe you didn't have the "equipment" to come play at the track. After all, soccer requires only 1 ball for racing you need 2.

stupid moving!!! i would have strangled anyone who got in my way to go to this!
had a question, anyone have the rear wheel steering bushings removed? is it a big difference? im a little frustrated with my t2 compared to my old 1g. when i try to find the limit i just spin. at least the ol 82 base model would understeer so i could feel the max of the car. my t2 is on or off. pisses me off frankly. i notice the vids of the n/a seemed alot like my old car.. easy to be agressive. i also noticed that he gets massive side to side sway when it instantly losses control, like my t2. i was hoping someone could tell me its because of these bushings.
thanks chev

I had the DTSS in my T2 and hated it at the track. The car never spun on me but it sure felt like it was going to lots of times. For me the feeling of the car wanting to swap ends every time I pushed it in a corner was too much. I had the DTSS eliminators installed and the car felt much better. Instead of the car feeling like it was going to spin it would slide which felt much more predictable. If I were you I would get rid of the DTSS in a heartbeat.

. Im going to make it to the next one for sure though.
