Decent price considering it has lapped around the Nurburgring faster than cars like a 911 Turbo.
and actually Nissan was looking to break the all-time record for a production vehicle on the ring. i'm not quite sure what car currently holds that record, but Nissan has not been able to do it yet with the GT-R. i think they are hoping the upgraded V Spec version due in a year or so might do that.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDoJdQXmwu8

but yeah, some questionable styling on the car, heh. there is an article somewhere that says the designers wanted to reflect Japanese culture or something in the design, and went so far as to put elements from things such as the Gundam anime series, the one with the giant robots, haha.

I really hated the looks of the new GTR when they were releasing "spy shots" last year. But I must say after seeing its final iteration.....................

I don't hate it as much.

Mean *** car though. 11.6 1/4 mile out of the box. Damn.

What's the market for this car? 25-30 year olds who know it from Gran Turismo and Forza? (Us). How many of us have 82 grand to spend on a sports car? And if we did... would we really buy this car?

It's going to be a hard sell to convince the main stream luxury GT car buying public to step out of their Audis, BMWs, Mercedes, Corvettes and Lexus' and into a Nissan (isnt Infinity their luxury brand??).

I don't get it. It's too cheap looking to be a Luxury car and too fat and full of stupid gizmos to be a sports car, regardless of it's performance numbers. Nissan has had a problem realizing that about its flagship cars for a long time.

I'm glad Lotus Elises and Exiges are around to offset this bloated, over complicated, over priced crap Nissan has once again inflicted on us.

All RX-7 owners should now repent for even having considered this car to be cool.

You'd be surprised how many people know about this car. Regardless of demograph.
Personally I think 82G's is a steal for what you're getting. You'll have to spend 20-40G's more just to get into a 911 Carrera. Let alone a Turbo.

At this level of the game it really comes down to personal taste. 82G's is not easy money. But when you see all the 911's on the road, you can see the GT-R is going to be a hot sell. They're all sold for Canada as it is. Unless you're willing to give up your spot for a premium, you won't be able to find any GT-R's when they officially go on sale this spring/summer.

Lets be honest, between the GT-R and the Lotus Elise, the Elise doesn't stand a chance. Sure, it's very light, but it doesn't have the muscle to hussle itself fast enough. It'll be very close in the corners, but then when you try to apply power the GT-R will just eat the Elise for lunch.
Plus you can use the GT-R like a regular car, unlike the Elise. You can try using the Elise like a regular car, but you'll quickly tire of it after an hour or so. Heaven forbid it starts to rain.

I think you'll be in the minority who thinks this car isn't cool. Then again, this is you we're talking about!

Find 3 lawyers, doctors or whatever else (the people who can actually afford this thing) and have them come on here and say they are trading their current Porsches, Audis and Mercedes for this car and I will change my mind.

If you have taste, you don't like this car and find it ugly and pointless. That's the problem.

I bet you'll have more fun in the Elise AND the girls will like you better at the track. That makes it cooler.

Let's have a who's cooler vote: Chris or Will haha

Leave it to you Will to make it into a popularity contest!

Clearly we'll have to agree to disagree on this car.
If you don't believe the doctors, lawyers or whoever can afford this thing would jump into something different other than a German "exotic", then you'll just have to wait till this spring/summer.
I'm pretty sure you'll be eating your words by then!

As for the car being pretty, well, that's subjective. The first time I saw pictures of it I just thought it was going to be a glorified 350Z.
But now that I've seen it, and experienced it in real life, I can honestly say it's going to be a hot seller.
You don't have to take my word for it. Just look at the sold out list they already have.

The Elise, well, I know you have a soft spot for that car. So I won't go there.

If I had to spend this type of money on a car, I would forgo the GT-R for the exclusivity of the Audi R8.
It left a tremendous impression when I was exposed to it.
Does it have the performance the GT-R has? Not a chance. The GT-R would run circles around the Audi R8.
In your words *****, the women would come flocking towards the R8! More so than your little Elise!! lol

You just proved my point. It's not about the power. People would rather have the Audi.

It is as ugly as a Subaru Sti, which is another great "bargain" from a performance perspective. But trust me I have never seen an Sti parked at the courthouses I attend. It is M-series, AMGs and Stuttgart's finest that I see. And I doubt things will change when this car becomes available. More alarming is that I still can't afford any of the above.

As far as pre-sales. Show me a low production sports car that gets introduced to Canada that doesn't sell out in its first year. How many is Canada getting anyhow? I doubt it is as high as the production numbers of the E46 M3 when it came out, which was also selling at a premium via waiting lists when it first arrived. Selling out M3 type production numbers is far more impressive.

Will,
There is 1 thing I hate about the GT-R and that's the choice of transmission. Which is non-existent. Meaning you're stuck with the DSG.
It's the only thing that gives this car its power.
The Audi R8 still comes with a choice of manual and auto tranny.

Also, the R8 costs almost twice as much as the GT-R.

Lawyers,
This is true. M3's are sold out and at a very high preimum.
They're both chunky cars.
The only reason I would take the M3 over the GT-R is because of the tranny.
I don't care how good the DSG is in the GT-R. I want to do all the shifting. Something that can only be done in the M3.

Jeremy hurt his neck with the cornering forces lol. Looks like I don't get to drive the car until 2010 :'( . Stupid waiting lists with no supply. I wanna take some pictures with the GT-R and my RX-7 facing each other. Old school meets new school ^_^.

Being a HALO car for Nissan I too was somewhat dissapointed on how it looks. However, when my brother and I were standing beside it. Couldn't help but to stare at it. Must be the all the hype that makes one wonders how it would feel to drive one.

At least they didn't go retro.

well i think the main reason why ppl like it and want it is because its goin to be legal in canada, its goin to be LHD, and of course, it is a skyline GTR
and actaully, it looks more like a g35 with a body kit, no suprise it uses VQ38 which they probably took off the VQ35 or VQ37 put some turbos in it, turned up the boost and call it a day.
man i wish the new rx7 would only have minor changes to exterior and a whole new spankin rotor design and interior and for 85 000$ start price without the full manual option which most (i think) ethusiast want, i wonder how well it sells espically with the audi s5 that just came out for only 65 000$, then theres also the ISF for 70 000$ with almost the same power output along with the tiptronic / auto trany, but atleast the ISF has a excuse, it has 8 gears , full manual shiftin 8 gears would be pretty tirin

the original youtube link is down because of copyright. here is another:
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=bzbPiW6VY_k

just search "Top Gear GTR" if they take that link down too.

yeah, and the GTR is definitely not just a tricked out G37/370Z. the transmission is a requirement of the car to be that fast and that good.
simiarily, you would not see a standard manual transmission on an Enzo or similar cars. it's not preference, it is part of the reason these cars are so fast and controllable.

The V spec will be manual but will cost more . Also, not sure if it will be available in Canada.
