ON Toronto - New RX-7 Owner Needs Help

Hey All,

New member here from Toronto, Ontario. ( i live at Dufferin and st-clair if anyone is near by) My name is Jordan Spergel and i am a 29 year old budding car enthusiast.
I finally had the opportunity to purchase my Uncles Convertible 93 RX-7 (13B-REW) which has been kept in the family since it was purchased. See pics below.

Now.....as you can clearly see, the car was sent down to the states and the top was cut off and modified to a convertible. They did not do a very good job and parts of it are shoddy.
I just got engine running again, after not being roadworthy for 5 years. Shes purring beautifully, just like i remembered. It has about 115000 km on the original engine. Besides the top, the car body is in near perfect condition.

I need to do a safety inspection and get plates for it, but before she is truly safe to drive I think i need to have the frame inspected, as the car sometimes creaks from stress.
I think i need to remove the current "u-bars" behind the seats and the custom storage box (which appear to only be welded to the floor of the car, and not to any frame components.) and have a proper reinforcement cage installed to strengthen the frame/body.

I was thinking, maybe something similar to what is used in the Miatas.

I would appreciate any insight or help on this.... as i want to get this beast back on the road so my fun and the modding can begin.

Also would like to make an appearance an the last meet if possible, but I couldn't find a current thread indicating another meet for this year.
Is there another October meet up scheduled?

Thanks in advance for reading and appreciate the support.

Hey Jordan, welcome home!

Before the Meeting of the Mazda's date was decided there was talk of an October meet, perhaps we should revive that discussion so that we can all get a look at this super rare conversion.

There will be plenty of members who will be more qualified than me to offer advice on your queries.

regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim.
I am working quickly on my end to get it on back on the road.
Could be ready by the weekend of 18th to meet or slightly sooner.

Let me know i suppose.

Otherwise, first thing in the spring....

We could have 1 last hurrah before putting the beasts away.
It'll be interesting to check out this conversion

Im not a local and wont get to see it. The car looks great and more exotic and European. They should have made some convertibles.

Did your uncle have the seat headrests reworked?
