i was here : http://fc3spro.com/reg.html
looking at the registered 10AE cars on the site, and noticed this;
Oldest 1988 10th Anniversary North America VIN serial listed: #621815
Latest 1988 10th Anniversary North America VIN serial listed: #624078
so simple math says that there are 2263 cars made between them.... so .. the 763 cars or so built between the 10AE run are normal. what a hopped up piece off nothin.. i prolly paid 1500-2000 more for the car because of it.. beware you people lookin at the shinka! just thought also, they have more than one plant right? how the heck did they make a 'few' cdn 10AE's and some american 10AE's, all within the span of a few thousand cars. maybe they work it like a registry when mazda ships the vin plates in batches to each factory, then one day just told them to put differ badging and paint on 'so' many models or something. thought it was interesting none the less.
in case you curious, 623594 is mine. oh and they are still worth more than the average t2 though

From what I gather, nubian is wondering why, if there are only 1500 10AE cars, their VIN's span 2263, at least.
Well, here's the deally, yo:
I believe RX-7's all came from 1 factory (volume is not high enough to support more than 1)
Not every car built in 1988 was an AE
So, Mazda likely built the AE's in batches, say 2-300 at a time, or maybe 100, then 600, then 800. This would allow them to fix any problems encountered on the first batch, and not hold up production of the regular cars too much. The "gaps" between the cars would probably shrink toward the end of the run. the first car would be built by itself, days or weeks before the second batch, which would probably be 10-100 cars. The rest would come in bigger batches spaced a few days apart, based on what the differences were, how much more time they took to build, etc.
Hope that helps.

The Shinka run for North America was cut down to very small volumes. Canada especially received few as a result. The fire in the Ujina paint plant completely shut down production of Rx-8's, Miata and MPV for some time. The Shinka run was slated to be right in the centre of that timeline, and the production was not made up at a later time.
Also, I think more research about the 10th AE volumes would be needed. There's no point about speculating on why or when they were made. I believe there was print ads ran with the production number stated on them. I would highly doubt they would doublecross the information on the ads.
Additionally, that panda picture is fantastic.
