ON Southwood Road (near Gravenhurst) update

I went with a friend to investigate the condition of Southwood Road this week.

The first bit of Southwood (south section of County Road 13, closest to Highway 11) is under construction – they have laid down drivable new asphalt on half of the road surface (the southbound lane), and they'll probably start on the other half soon. We had to stop a few times to let construction vehicles pass through.

The rest of the road is fine – there is evidence of some patching on the potholes and no major potholes as it heads north towards the Frank Miller Memorial Route (169) with very few rough spots on the asphalt.

There is minimal sand and a little bit of loose gravel on some of the surface. Vegetation doesn't interfere with the sides of the road and the lane markings look clear – there is one unmarked tight turn in the southern section of Southwood that should be taken in first or second gear.

Southwood is a narrow country road with unpaved shoulders and it is divided by construction pylons in the southern part. Leave plenty of room for passing vehicles and stay alert for bicyclists, dog walkers, and parked vehicles at the side of the road. There are plenty of blind turns that should be taken with caution.

Thanks for the update, much appreciated!
I ran it a few weeks ago too and my observation is the same.

However, I've got better routes from Severn Bridge to Rossau that's very well suite to the FD ...

This was always a fun road, but in recent years was littered with potholes that had been overfilled.

Glad to hear its being resurfaced. Might just have to make a trip up before the season is over,
