Something that Drives Me Nuts.........

Man, this may be because I am just a grumpy guy sometimes but a thread on here reminds me of something that drives me nuts and has to do with maybe me not understanding acceptable protocols. RANT ON. I have thrown away more good RX7 parts than I can remember. I have tried to give away a ton of stuff for free or basically free and even paid shipping to give away some stuff to people I thought would appreciate it. The worst case was the basically rust free 86 FC Shell that I tried to give away for 6 months, until I finally scrapped it. It was a complete shell with suspension, spare rustfree body panels, etc... Everybody wanted me to send them pictures and or deliver it to there house. I have also tossed 2 good FC NA gearboxes, housings, irons, body parts, etc.... Right now I have a ton of electrical stuff, throttle bodies from S4 and S5 NA and TII's and ecu's that I have no home for and they take up space in my incredibly cluttered garage.

When somebody offers to give away stuff, nothing is more annoying than having to take pictures of it, package it up and then ship it on the hopes that you will have your shipping covered. Maybe I am wrong but if its free, I think that people should make an effort to drop on by the givers house and pick it up if you want it.

For me its not about the shipping costs or the value of the parts, but just the aggravation in boxing everything up and having to take it to the store to ship it. I have a lot of very good parts (like a TII dash assembly with 84,000 kms on it) that nobody seems to want, not for $20 or even free. I just don't get it. Maybe everybody is so rich now that they don't want to make an effort to get free parts.

If there is interest, I will post another give away thread. All I want to do is make sure that the parts go to somebody who needs them and not to somebody who will flip the parts to make some money. When I was younger and could have used some help with my car, in the way of free parts, I would have leaped at the chance. I just don't see that happening much any more.

Rant off and back to being a nice guy, LOL.

I Hear you. Maybe I should swing by and see what you want to give away as I am converting my 10thAE back to stock and throw out all the original stuff. (Mostly anyhow)

I know how you feel. I have a set of new motorcycle leathers and boots worth over $2000K and I was asking $600 for it. No takers. Everyone wants me to drive it through toronto during rush hour etc. WTF. Spend my time driving only to sell something cheap and almost give it away.. LOL.

Tonight I am swinging by hybridg's place to pick up a few parts (FOR FREE Awesome!)

I couldnt aggree more. When I was trying to get rid of that hath that I had people wanted me to do everything. Between pictures, delivering it, asking if it was really free, and even asking if it had an engine (it was just the hatch). I couldnt believe it was that hard to give something away. Maybe I should have put a price on itm maybe that makes it seem more legitimate. But seeing as I got it for free from another member here i wasnt going to turn around and try and make a quick buck on it. guess your right and people just have too much money now.

Yeah, the car had been a track car all its life, but had spent a little time on the street. Nothing major, just a bit of surface rust where the paint had thinned out. I couldn't believe that nobody wanted it either. It had an ownership and was an 86 shell, so at the very least somebody could have taken it and switched all their good bits into the car and had a car that didn't require a smog check. It had 2 sets of doors, 2 noses and 2 rears. I just wanted to get it to a good home. There was 1 interested party and they wanted me to deliver it to their house using my truck and trailer. I just don't get it.

It went to the scrapper and I assume is something else now. Lets hope its a new RX8 or something cool at least.

I hear you - but it's not just car parts.

When we moved I had a ton of stuff that I had to get rid of, so I posted it on kijiji and craigslist for cheap or free. All I got was a parade of asshats and selfish ******. The one that really got to me was the firewood. I recently built a shelter for firewood and had a bunch left over that didn't fit inside. I had injured my wrist so had no time or ability to chop it so I posted it for free on kijiji.

I put pictures and explained the situation and put three points:

1. I don't know what type of wood it is, other than free.
2. I cannot deliver.
3. You have to take it all.
4. I cannot chop the wood.

The first 8 emails ALL asked me to go against at least two of these points. "Can you chop the wood and deliver it to me?" WTF is wrong with you??

But for all the negatives, the 9th email was from a guy who came and picked up the wood, chopped it up and gave it to an elderly couple with little money who heat their house with wood.

I'd have killed for generosity like yours when I bought my car, and I'm sure there are still people out there that will benefit from it. Eventually these things end up with the people who can use them most.

Eric, if it makes you feel any better I still appreciate that NA transmission you gave me.

I'd scoop up tons of parts from everybody if it wasn't for geography.

Thanks for the comment, but its not about feeling better, I just hate throwing away good parts and then seeing threads about a month later from guys looking for pieces. I also get ticked when I have to do all the work to give away a part for free or almost free. I used to have to save avery piece that I could as you just couldn't buy parts, you had to fab parts and you never knew when you were going to need them. Thats why my garage looks the way it does. I don't need to keep stuff, I just see value in all kinds of stuff and save it for a rainy day.

I have a couple of pms from guys looking for parts and I thank them and will contact them as soon as I can work out when I have some free time. My life is kinda busy.

I also see that it seems to be more of a timing thing. When I was in my late teens or early 20's and I had no cash and was trying to fix up my car, I used to follow up every lead I could and scour junkyards for cheap parts. I was also thankful and tried to not put anybody out while doing it. It is interesting that its being seen by a bunch of guys and across Canada and across product lines. I guess its what people do today. God that makes me sound old.........

I know what that's like. What's worse is people who flake on free parts or when it's peanut shells cheap.

GLAAARRRGGHHHH!!!!!! I am not going to mention any names, but I just had somebody pm me and ask me if I had a rustfree FC or FD shell available, especially one that had been tracked. No disrespect to the guy as I am certain that he is a very good person, but this thread clearly states that the car was scrapped. This is exactly what I am talking about.

I really think the problem is that people don't read things thoroughly and have a sense that things are and should be really easy and that they shouldn't need to work for stuff. Its not one person or a certain age of people, it seems to be the way things are now. Everybody is special and better than the next person.

Man, I started out with very little and I have had to work hard for everything I have. I recognize that different people come from different backgrounds and have different expectations. Anybody who knows me, I would think recognizes that I don't mind helping out people when I can, but please, please, please try just a little bit to understand the situation first and make a minimal effort before asking a question.

Oh man, gotta go take a walk now.

I'd be down for a parts thread, provided you include pictures.

I've had people demand more than I've given them when I've given stuff away. One instance was when I gave away 3 pairs of shoes (all worn once at most), and the guy that came to pick them up was quite rude about wanting more. I've also seen stuff I've given away go up on kijiji the same day.

Regardless, the one thing you can take solace in, is that you just (hopefully) helped someone along their path towards getting their car the way they want.

Just for that post, I am going to kick your a$$ on Aug. 1 at Shannonville. Freakin' cage match with bent panels, all kinds of different smoke and various human and vehicular liquids left out on the track. It will be fun watching you struggle with your new gear ratio's and cursing that you need more POWAAAAAA, LOL.

See I am in a better mood today and a lot of it has to do with people being somewhat intelligent. To prove it, I am attaching a photo of some delicious Garlic Bread, mmmmmmmm buttery and garlicky......... and a very close garbage bin for people who need it. Don't say that I don't give you guys stuff, LOL.

lol, people are idiots in general, and in today's society with technological advancements, we've come to the point where anything we want is a click away.

My brother always told me that any invention can be attributed to laziness. People were too lazy to feed their horses, and pick up after them, so we got cars. People got tired of waiting for waiting for restaurants to cook proper food, so now we got fast food with synthetic this and that.

I don't understand how people are unable to throw themselves into another persons shoes, and think automatically that they are the best. This is why we need to keep track of amateur sports, and start doing things for ourselves again. Even the way people drive is ridiculous as well. It's like you get into the car and the rest of the world is below you all of a sudden.

I am a college student currently, and frankly, anything to keep my car afloat is always appreciated. I just always feel bad taking something from someone, and then putting it in my garage and having it sit there. There are things my car currently could use, but frankly, I can't afford to be spending money on something that isn't detrimental to my car.
