Hopefully it's just the oil cooler.

No problem. You were alot of help the first day. The next time around things will not feel as stressed and I will be more organized.

The coil we replaced did not fix my tach problems. Once the car heated up the tach was bounching like mad! Must have been creating havoc with my trailing plugs!

Anyhow figured just to let people guess what happened first

Put it this way. The problem that happened made me serverly spin out! On the solosprint second fasted area of the track! Car will be out of service for at least a month.

CAA said nothing. I just pushed it to the entrance and they picked it up. Dude was nice enought to drop it right into my garage.

What happened? Let me guess. The bung that cracked that you had cut out and a peice of aluminum welded over failed at the welds? You suddenly lost all oil coating your rear wheels on the back straight and you spun?

You going to go back to the shop that welded the oil cooler up and ask for your money back? I wouldn't let a shop get away with mickey mouse work.

That is what I am guessing. That would be the only explanation. Time to pull it apart and possible buy a big upgrade. I noticed running my ac fan made it cooler. Wonder if I can get fans mounted on the oil cooler!

Weekend was way too much fun.
Ian sorry for your misfortune, but I agree with James, you probably shut the engine down soon enough to prevent any damage from oil starvation.
Get those lines fixed and fire it up!

Well I can't believe my eyes. The brand new oil lines from mazda motorsport separated at the fitting. I was wrong to assume that it was from the newly welded plate on the oil cooler. I would never of guessed that a brand new line would separate like that.

I will take a picture.

WOW!!!! That must have been fun, J/K. Looks like a very poor crimp. I am going to go out and look at my lines to check.

As long as the car is okay then its just a repair. I had my lines made at Parker and while a bit heavier they have stood up to 6 years of racing action with no leaks or other issues.

Welcome to on-track action. LOL.

wow, how does that even happen. I've seen brake lines do that if someone puts a torch near them, but I wouldn't think that a big hefty NEW line that isn't getting set on fire do something like that!

I've never messed with my oil cooler and still have stock lines. yay!

IAN, glad to hear you are ok. I would write a nice letter and send pics of those lines to Mazdamotorsports. Let me know if you need any assistance.

Thanks,

I will be receiving a new line. Right now what hurts is my hand. LOL Those oil coolers are mega sharp! Received a few stitches to hold the meat together along my the side of my thumb. So much oil and I took my gloves off to remove the bolt. Slipped...............

She should be back on the road again in a week.
