Thumbs up So took the car to the dyno.....

and was pleasantly surprised with the results. 1st off I am not running a big turbo so don't expect any huge numbers.

I don't like to bring attention to myself and rarely start a thread, but what the heck.

This is the "Max Tune Street Port" motor in my TII running....
stock ECU
stock TMIC
stock turbo
stockish boost levels (7.5PSI)
stock TID w/air filter
stock exhaust piping with no cats
stock precat (presumably hollowed)
stock operational twin-scroll

and

no cold start and emissions (no air pump, ratsnest, double secondary throttle)
no A/C or power steering
no OMP, just premix

Happy with the peak numbers, but more importantly with the torque curve along with the powerband. The main reason for the dyno was to check the A/F as I don't have a wideband and wanted to make sure my car was happy.

Just thought I would throw it out there as people seem to have the mentality that the 13BT motors even in stock to mild form are too peaky, too laggy, no torque at low RPMs, not enough useable power, etc etc........here on the forums and also overhearing it at few of the RX-7 meets.

I know that a bunch of us were quite surprised with the results. There is nothing wrong with that power and torque - especially when you figure that the car is basically stock.

yeah that isn't bad!

anyone that thinks rotarys are peaky is dumb...

you should get an S-AFC!

oh, and an intake and exhaust, and ported wastegate.
and then more dyno time!

So much for big porting killing low end torque.......Very good considering the lack of hard mods on the car..

Interesting setup and numbers for basically a ported S4 with straight pipe in cat location. I'm a bit surprised that it doesn't run leaner than it did.

Do you have any plans to upgrade, Ronak?

That's exactly what I was worried about. The former owner did port the wastegate, but don't know to what extent. I was under the impression that stock boost is 5.5PSI, but noticed in a Car and Driver review of the car in 1986, maximum boost pressure is listed as 6.2PSI. Don't feel so bad now that I creep up to 7.5PSI (8PSI if a cold day).

It sucks that I am stuck in this state of the car until I port the wastegate, get a piggyback or standalone. I have a TID and Downpipe I would love to put on. Going to have to decide what do with it.

Nothing power wise for the near future. I came from a driving a NA RX-7 for years, and my daily driver is a Corolla, so not adjusted to boost yet Need to get a paintjob with the fender repair, then work on the suspension, after that work on the brakes followed by some lightwieght rims. Makes decent reliable power and I want to get the rest of the car to compliment the engine. Provided I have any money left after that, I'll start looking at upping the power.

What's stopping you from putting in the TID and/or downpipe? Installing one of the two shouldn't require additional fuel, should it?

i finally put my clutch in.... just waiting for a master cylinder BUT, i have similar mods.

stock motor
stock ECU
stock TMIC
stock turbo
stockish boost levels (7-7.5PSI)
cone filter with 3" pvc(sound different!)
2.5" dp, to with y pipe to stock mufflers
stock operational twin-scroll

and

no air pump
no A/C

i want to head to the dyno to see my numbers also, gimme a couple weeks, ill report back. i would be interesting to see what the curves do.

ANY and ALL exhaust mods require a bigger wastegate if you want to be on the throttle for more than 5 seconds at a time.

if you do pull the turbo to port it, do it properly, make that hole HUGE!

bbmac, did you work at rx7 specialties? i brought my car there a couple times in 04 looking for odd parts and there was a guy that worked there that was lookin at me wierd! i bought it off adam a couple years ago btw.

terrh, i can stay on the boost, not sure about very long pulls in 4th and 5th. but but 1-3 will go to redline without boost creep. 7-8ish psi

In 1st and 2nd gear, it barely gets to 7PSI, into 3rd mine will creep to 7.5PSI, into 4th and 5th, even on hills it's still 7.5. With the coldish weather recently I have been seeing 8PSI. Of course this is assuming this autometer gauge is accurate of course, which I hear they are not. Maybe next year I will swap it out for something better. The stock gauge shows 4.5 PSI.

Shaun: I should have enough fuel, but I don't want to take the chance that it might increase airflow enough to cause a problem. I figure if I am going to go to the route of gaining more power, I will either go with an external wastegate or just bite the bullet and go standalone w/ wideband O2. For the short term, I am happy with the way it performs power wise, can't say the same for the suspension, handling and braking though....stupid track day.

I have a straight pipe from turbo back and i have no boost issues i usually boost around 7psi and now that the weather is cooling down I am starting to see 7.5 PSI. plus it had no problems on my last track day. yeah my EGT's start to get high after 20 min on the track, but everything else seemed good. oh and the new Tien suspension installed last week made it amazing on the track. I was able to beat a newer porsche 911 carrera around the corners.
