so i got my first ticket in the rx7

iv been driving it since june and cops never even looked at me, and i heard so much about how cops hate rx7s, well tonight i was driving down dixon to go to zets. i knew that area was bad for cops so i made shure to keep my speed at 70 flat no more. next thing i know theres a cop behind me with his lights on. so it goes somthing like this: btw bold and italics means he was talking in a loud and rude voice.

the cop walks up to my window
cop: so where you going in such a hurry?
me: hurry? i dont beleave i was speeding.
cop: I SAW YOU FLY BUY WITH YOUR TURBO POPPING AND I CAUGHT UP TO YOU AND MY SPEEDOMETER SAID 80
me: turbo? i dont have a turbo.
cop: SUPERCHARGER, WHATEVER!
me: its na. i can show you if you want.
cop: *very loud* IT DOSENT MATTER

then he looks at my friend in the back seat, and in the same voice sais "hay buddy you got your seat belt on? my friend sais yes and he sais where? so my friend shows him.

any who, he gave me the ticket and told me i could take it to court. i just said thank you in a sweet voice as he walked away. what a dick. so as i pulled away i let first go to 5k and pop, then second to around 4k and big pop lol. i cant wait to fight this, 1st he cant prove that his speedometer is 100% accurate and that his acceleration was not a factor. and 2. when i ask him how he knows his speedometer is perfect, and he sais it was adjusted using a dyno, i win because it is illegal to modify or change the settings of your speedometer(my dad used this one). so its a win win, and thats if he shows up, which i kinda hope he does so i can rub it in his face for being such a meanie.

I've never been harassed in the FD.
They all try to see who's driving, but I've never been pulled over for doing 10 or 20 above.
I've gotten all my tickets with my daily driver. Not once with the FD.

I guess it's the area you drive your car in.

I remember not driving around with a front license plate about 5-7yrs back. But 1 trip into Peel region, and that was enough to get me a front license ticket. In the pouring rain coming off the 403 onto hwy 10, freakin cop pulls me over. Meanwhile there are Corollas and Camery's reaking havoc on the roads. He had to pull me over for not having a front license plate.

Some cops....

When you go to court, you can question the cop on what he said exactly to you. If he doesn't recall, read it back to him - ask the court's permission to make reference to notes you made at the time. His assumptions go to credibility - he seems to have made pre-judgements, like assuming you had a turbo or supercharger.

Speedo can go both ways - your's isn't necessarily accurate either (although I remember years ago Road and Track testing a Dodge cop car with its "certified" logo right on the speedo - and it was 5mph optimistic, even though most cars they tested back then were accurate to one mph or so. But if he is clocking you with speedo, he has to pace you, not just rush up from behind you, else it's just a guess.

In regards to not having front license plate, I saw plenty of cars driving without a front license plate, what is the regulations about it? Is it legal or illegal?

Saw some sedan car, or SUV driving without a front license plate all the time..... or when you are in the parking lot, look around, you will see some without one as well, easily!

I still keep both of my front and rear plate on all the time.... don't want to risk!

In the end I didn't want to get hasseled anymore. So I reinstalled my front plate.
Some people can be extreme and keep getting pulled over for it. I'd rather not spend $110 (back 5yrs ago) on something as silly as a front plate.

You run the car at your own risk. I've seen countless attempts regarding the front plate (different mounting positions, having it on the front dash, even sticker replica on the front bumper) but they all garner you a ticket sooner or later.
Stupid law says both plates must be visible/mounted on the car.

I see..... so yeah, basically they are running the car at their own risk...... I even saw some SUV or mini van that doesn't have a front plate too......... anyhow, I always keep my both plates on my car!

if ur planning to fight it at court. make sure ur ligit (licence, insurance, ect) and ur fc is ligit (everything legal) because they'll track down whatever they can find to not look stupid.
and if the cops that much of a Dick head, its going to be a long and tiring battle.

and damn, $100+ for the licence plate ticket? mine is curved up to my bumper because I scuffed them too much. better straighten it out

It sounds like it will turn into your word against the cops. In this situation your going to lose. If you have to take off of work it's not worth it, you will not win. But if you already have tickets and are afraid of loosing your license plead not guilty and see if it gets knocked down to a lower charge. Btw the cop sounded like a dick, but you still gotta prove you weren't speeding.

It is mandatory for all vehicles (some exceptions applied, none to our cars) to have both front and rear license plate displayed at all times.

Funny thing is i think Ontario is one of the only provinces that enforce this law, might be a couple of others. why? Because were money hungry bastards who try to squeeze a dollar out the pocket any which way we can.

check out www.ticketcombat.com he has to have locked you in on his radar. that page is a tutorial on how to represent yourself in ontario traffic court.
I got my first ticket ever this summer for "fail to stop Amber light" in my rx7 $175 and 3 points.
it was total BS , the cop was a huge douchebag , i turned down the prosecutors offer for fail to obey lane lights for $85 and no points, i took it to trial but the cop is off for "medical reasons" i have to go back feb 25 to see if they know when the cop will be back. or else it'll get dropped right there

I suggest you get the footage from the cruisers dash cam. If he really was just being a dick that should win your fight for you.

I'm pretty sure you have the right to request that the officer present the proof of your speed on his/her radar before they ticket you. One cop did this automatically with me and when one didn't present me with the radar reading, I asked to see it and then he didn't ticket me... just gave me a life-lesson warning - obviously he was going to ticket me without evidence, but then this is the same guy that said "My wife had a convertible just like this, I know how fast they are!" lol

Question: how Freakin tall is your friend in the back seat?..(munchkin?)
Now,the reason why they stop rx7's?..Because they look fast..and they sound fast.(even if you are going 50 kph,you may be in high revs,so in effect it "sounds fast"!)...really..it's just the cops Choice.and they may be having a bad day..whatever.
I got pulled over 2 years ago,for supposedly Speeding.,I wasn't
Cop said I was 'observed" by the Ghost car speeding.
I had a Passenger with 2 Full cups of Timmy's in the car,and asked the cop if he saw any Spilled coffee..he said NO..I said then I wasn't speeding was I???
He ran my Plate and said "be careful"..(bye bye..#$%@ head..!!)

thanks for all the support, i definitely will update you all after the trial but that might not be for a year lol. its a good thing i have a good memory. the dash cam idea sounds good my friend who was in the passenger seat said he saw him race up in a different lane and as he got close he merged into my lane putting the lights on at the same time. which is definitely not enough time to accurately gauge my speed. my friend who was in the back seat is 5' 8" and 180lbs he just fits and ocationaly bounces his head off the metal of the hatch lol

Thought I'd chime in with the insurance perspective on this.

First off, in case there's any confustion, a fail to display plate ticket will have an effect on your insurance. All tickets do.

Secondly, (this is one of the more common misconceptions I come across during my job) points mean nothing to insurance. Points are only used by the ministry to keep track of your "score" when you score high enough, your license gets suspended. Points fall off your license 2 years from the date at which you paid the fine or were found guilty in court. "Winning" in court and getting your ticket knocked down to a no-points offense isn't winning. It still has an effect on your insurance. The exact same effect as if you paid the original amount and acquired some points on your license.

Third, and most relevant I have a new product available at work that I think could help a lot of you guys out and it's something I have purchased myself.

For $7.20 a month (or $80 a year) I can provide coverage for you that will fight all of your traffic tickets (exception: Alcohol related) for you. These are real lawyers, not guys from POINTS. No hidden costs, no fees.

In addition to that (which I think is worth $80 alone) you're also provided:

Driver's license protection to fight against the suspension of your license

Contract dispute protection relating to automobile transactions.
-This means: Got a shop to fix your car and they screwed it up worse? They'll sue the shop for you and pay all the court costs, witness costs, legal fees of the shop if you lose the case AND they don't take any of the money you're awarded if you win.

You're also given 24 hour access to a lawyer by telephone for automotive related legal advice.

If anyone has any interest in this, send me a message and I'll be happy to fill you in some more.

(I'm not trying to make a bunch of money off you guys, to be honest my comission off of this policy is a whopping $4.90 they're not worth my time to write, but the protection is fantastic.)

unfortunatly there's no statute that says that cops can't be jerks. I had one officer pull a U-turn and almost put his cruiser in the ditch in bad weather because he said I was doing 48km over the limit.. on a country road... in an S-bend... in November in the rain on summer tires. I was pretty amused when he came up to my window red-faced and pissed.. I figure if he couldn't keep his cruiser on the road, there was no way that I could have been flying that quick through those corners in my SRT4. Turns out the guy was notorious for treating drivers like absolute garbage.

There's lots of great ones, but there are a few crappy officers out there in traffic.

Ill chime in as i have pretty good experience in this.... the cop doesnt have to be at court, if he doesnt show, he may have entered a statement with the courts which is just as good as him showing up. He does need a radar reading, and it has to be calibrated very recently. the court system will plead down your case as it is much more expensive for them to fight the ticket then the actual ticket. That being said, they will more then likely not just make it go away, as it discredits the cop and his future ticketable offences he may give.

I have had cops help me with the crown in relation to a wreckless driving ticket. went down to no fine and three points. instead of 500 and 6

I have had a no stop go completely away before also. jusrt by saying i stopped and read the road signs and was in no way breaking the traffic laws.

I have also had a 50km taken down from a radar clocking by the cop himself, all while driving a vehicle with expired plates and half a front end (a week after my buddy crashed my car and scored a wreckless ticket for me) It was a stupid situation on my part, especially since i was underaged and had two kegs in the back seat, one empty and one full. (underaged in ontario, but not quebec at the time)

My point is it all depends on the cop and the crown. You must present yourself as a resonsible person at the courts at all times, bow to the judge, call them your honour and not sir or man, and refer to cops as officers of the law. It will help a lot. but if you have had a lot of traffic tickets in the past you have bad odds, I was lucky with all my tickets as they were all being contested around the same two weeks, so my history to them was considered clean. That was over 4 years ago.

On another related note, some cops are jerks. Im sure you will be hearing on the news soon about an officer of the hawkesbury OPP detatchment being found guilty of assault causing bodily harm.... That was on myself. Got the crap beat out of me in a cell almost a year ago, i cant get into to many details about the situation as some of it is still in the courts, as well as the fact that I have a civil lawsuit on the OPP, but I was charged with 2 counts of assault, one uttering threats to cause death and bodily harm, one count of resisting arrest and a Liqour License act charge of drunk in public... Every charge he laid was a lie to protect himself as the evidence of his assault on me is on video. All charges now are unofficially dropped, but not without a lot of help from my lawyers and private investigators.

So if you think you need a lawyer, I know a few that may help you out. You did the right thing by being polite, but in some situations it doesnt matter how right you are as some cops believe they are above the law. Best you can do is present yourself to the courts as an honest, nice person... and remember, keep your cool there, its their job to discredit you.

Quick tip: Traffic court "judges" are actually justices of the peace and should be addressed as "your worship" not " your honour"

This is a good resource - coming from someone who has fought nearly every ticket I ever got, and gotten off most. Maybe it should be stickied, since these "I got a ticket" threads come up regularly.

Quick Reply: so i got my first ticket in the rx7
