Shell removal

The SE has finally been stripped naked and I've called several places to come pick it up. Out of the 5 or 6 places I've called , one place wanted to charge me $50-75 and the other place took my name and address but never showed up and the others refused.

I can easily rent a trailer and take it there myself, or I can buy a saws-all and take it in pieces in the back of the pick up.

Does anyone have any other options?

you'll probably need a sawsall eventually anyways, but you may be surprised at how tough the B-pillars are.

if you call meyer's towing they'll take it to the scrapyard for you for free if you give them the ownership.

I just called and they quoted $60 + GST

I just called Rally towing, he done a drive by, and he told me that since there was nothing on the car it would have to go directly to Zalev so he wasn't interested.

I have no problem spending the money, but I think that the saw would be a better deal. And I don't want to waste my time farting around, I just want that car off the driveway real soon.

wow, meyers took away a talon for me for free
the guy that came said that next time if I called to have the car towed to zalves the guy would split the money with me or something, I'm not quite sure how the deal worked.

You live pretty close to their yard right (near CENTRAL and ECROW).. maybe stop by and have a chat with one of their drivers (not dispatch)...

a sawzall may be a better deal but a car is surprisingly difficult to cut up!

Make sure you've removed the fuel tank as I believe you'll need it for the -SE swap and Zalev's won't take it with a gas tank or tires.

The tank is out but has holes... The GSL tank has a leak too . So I'm in the market for another tank.

I kind of figured you were dealing with one of the drivers.

I just got off the phone with a buddy who'll lend me his saw. I'll check how difficult the B pillars are to cut and go from there. From what I see, these saws are rated in amps from 7.5 to 15 amps for the $250 one. Maybe you're having difficulties because you're at the lower end of the scale.

Sawzalls are great, we parted out and cut up my buddy's smashed 300ZX and deposited the small parts into random dumpsters across the city.
Easy way to get rid of a car.

Jeepers, seems to me you could have simply gone to Zalevs and given them as large a load as you can haul.

Call some buddies with saws and a few cases of beer. Cut it up and leave a sign on your yard that says free scrap metal.
Where i live there's junk guys lookin for scrap every day.

Well I remember a sales guy for blades came to Windsor and cut a K-car in half in under 2 minutes. Now I realize that he wasn't cutting where the beefy parts are and that he was using a 15 amp saw, but I should be able to do bring it down to manageable morsels in a few hours.

...without having a saw party!

I cut up a metro.. you'll need something with a long blade (hacksaw perhaps will work) to get through the rocker panels.

I'd cut the roof off and then quarter the rest, that's probably easiest.

Well here's the tally:

10 amp saw: $130
Zalev credit : $ 35
tow charge : $ 50 (if they would have done it for me)

Net cost : $ 45

Time to cut the car into 11 pieces: 1 hour (just me)
Time to load it and transport it : 1 hour (me and my dad)

Next time I'll use a blade longer than 6 inches so it cuts the floor and the frame in one cut. A small note Terrh, a good saw and the proper type and length blade makes the job real easy. Heck, I'm sure I could have cut 30 minutes off my labour if I wouldn't have had to flip the car over to cut the frame because the blade was too short.

There was only 620 pounds. I kept the motor, tranny, suspension, rear end, hood, rear hatch, door glass. Basically, anything bolted down was removed.

If the car had been complete, it would have weighed 4 times more. So I guess I would have made $140 minus tire disposal fee (4 X $10???).
