S5 motor confirmation

I was just wondering if there was a quick way to confirm that an engine is an S5 and not an S4 from visual inspection? I was looking at a JDM engine and that is suposed to be an S5. But I saw the twin scroll acuator on the turbo which should not be there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Another way to make sure its an S5, is to look at the Oil Metering Pump on the front cover. If it's real big and has some wires coming out of it...then it should be a S5.

position of the knock sensor is a giveaway too.. but now I forget which is which. I think that s4's have them on the center iron while s5's have them on the front rotor housing. But it could be the opposite. I forget, sorry

Twin scroll on manifold = at least an s4 manifold, the s5's dont have that. Sure you weren't looking at the WG actuator?

the s5 fan has 10 blades, the s4 has 8, the tps on the s4 is a single unit, on the s5 it has 2.

Just curiouse as to why you are trying to find what series motor you have? Did someone say they sold you and S5 and you think it might be an S4??. Or diod you just buy an engine and now are trying to figure out which series it is?

If it's the first, then it would be quite easy to desguise an S4 for an S5 i suppose, only think i read that i doubt could be changed w/o rebuilding the motor is where the knock sensor is like Terrh already suggested, i'm pretty sure mine is on the center housing, and i have an S4 but it's N/A, not sure if that would make a difference.

I'm not trying to correct anyone here, just trying to figure out why you want to find out what series engine you have.

an easy dead give away S4 has 2 bolt oil metering pump and an s5 has a 3 bolt oil metering pump and S6 doesn't have the distributer style CPS

I bought what I was told was an S5 motor. I checked the TPS to confirm that it had the double sensors and it did so I thought I was good to go. Now I see the OMP is S4 and the Turbo is S4. I have an S4 TII with S5 rotors (rear is now blown), so I wanted to buy an S5 core to rebuild my hybrid. To be safe I may have to start weighing the parts to figure out if my engine goes back to an S4 or a hybrid. Thanks for your help guys.
