The basic principles of a 4 stroke internal combustion engine is the same for a piston or rotary engine. I'm sure the rotary engine (and other types of internal combustion engines) is review when training to be a mechanic.
Dealer mechanics are also trained when a new vehicle comes out.

.. There is alot of opinion on this forum that is just wrong, and alot of followers that run with it , and it becomes cemented as truth...Like people pulling there bac valves for performance..I think the best school is to work for mazda at some point, preferably in Japan, tha twould be tough I know. Just about everyone I know in Japan that owns a rotary shop, or races them, at some point worked for or has someone working for them that worked for Mazda directly in Japan, as either an engine builder, engineer, or a factory trained dealer mechanic, those guys bring alot of factory tech out into the open which fuels their knowledge base.
The second way is to start learning Japanese, and buy the books from Japan, bookstores had complete sections on just rotary engines, you will never find those books in English or anything equivalent here. Probably the best book ever available here is yamaguchi but for performance its 'How to Modify my Rx-7', its been out of print for a long time, its a good basic book, however its very behind the times since it was released just as efi was making its production debut on rotary engines, and some of the tuning info is dated .. They come up on ebay every once in awhile, but to be honest a single issue of the monthly Japanese magazine RE has more legitimate info in it then you will get from pretty much all the english publications..Max
so all i need is a work visa for japan..to quit my well paying job and for my fiance to not kill me when i go to japan..seems simple enough haha...J/J well **** eh...thats not fair..oh well i ll figure some **** out

seriously though, if you are deligent and have enough common sense you can weed through and find the actual useful bits of info on this forum.
and it's more about the community aspect rather than coming here solely for technical info.

You're in the CANADIAN section... Cali is not in Canada.
I'd be interested to know of anywhere in Canada though... doubtful that there's any place anywhere outside Japan that specifically teaches rotary... would be cool though.
