ON RHD and E-tests! Hot Rod Rule

I Just got back from getting my car etested , I had looked into it before and started a thread earlier asking if a RHD would be classified as grey market, and they are. So they are able to be tested under the hot rod rule. which is the 1980's emissions standards. my car has full stock exhaust and cat with the airpump working properly, and it flew through the test.
I figure i'll post this info here since they wont tell you this stuff when you go to take it for a etest, just to make it easier for you guys to pass

1980's emmissions standards seem to get tighter every year.

It's this wonderful initiative instituted in Ontario and various other provinces to "control" the amount of pollution that your vehicle contributes, by checking up on its emissions every two years.

These tests are however only required in densely populated areas. In many rural regions they are not required whatsoever. In other words, a MASSIVE governmental cash cow under the auspice of being environmentally friendly.

Ontario - land of constant *** raping. If most of my family didn't live in this province I'd be GONE.

no it only works if its an engine that was never availible for that car. if you put a 13brew in an FC it wouldnt count because its a 13b, if you put a 20b in your fc it would

Like everything else. no one want to do their job. you have to tell them its a grey market vehicle , and if they give you problems tell them to pull out their big binder of all the etest rules and guidelines and look it up. under that part you have to prove its a grey market vehicle by showing import papers or something UNLESS its RHD because its obvious. then make a wise crack to the guy at the desk about how its pretty bad you know their job better than them.

I had mine e tested as hot rod due to my 13bre.
That motor was only available for the cosmo and I was able to prove it.

hahaha yeah but thats just another loop hole i guess since it was from a cosmo.
They got alittle more strict in the last year or so. my buddy couldnt get his b16 vtec crx to go under the hot rod rule and it was done under the hotrod rule the last time because they had a d16 or something. he tried a few different places

ok but how does it classify as a hotrod e test for just being RHD . i have the import papers and all and how do you go by that when the garage doesnt seem to care if its RHD or not.

Sorry for dragging this thread back to the top, but it's good information for RHD owners.

I went to an e-test place and said it was a grey market vehicle. At first they were pretty adamant that it wasn't, blah blah blah about RX-7s being sold in canada, has to have a different engine, documentation, nothing to do with the e-tester, etc. All the things brought up in this thread, really.

After a while he went to check, and came back saying we're right, these cars are tested as grey market and that's that. Even good e-test people might not have the right understanding of "grey market," so we just have to be really persistent and annoying.

Anyway, turns out I didn't need to be a pain in the *** about it, cause my car passed the e-test no problem. It's a good day.

a "hot rod" under MOE regulations is defined as

a motor vehicle in which the original motor has been replaced with a motor of a type not installed by the manufacturer on that model year of motor vehicle

it goes both by year and by model

so, technically, if you put an fd's 13b into an fc, it would be a hot rod

but tough to prove

the onus is always on the owner to prove the car is a hot rod or a grey-market vehicle

My FC was an auto N/A car stock. It has a TII 5speed swap now. Will this classify it as a hot rod as i dont believe you could get an auto FC with the TII engine?
