Repairing FD alternator

Hello everyone,

I've had an FD alt on my FC for 3 years now, about 40K km(one of the silverrotor ones). It has worked great the whole time. Until last week when I drove back from sudbury. Charging system failure in petawawa, just past chalk river. Luckily I had CAA plus and was towed all the way into ottawa.

Upon dissassembly of the alternator, we found the brushes worn into oblivion. They were not mazda factory brushes, and in my opinion should have lasted more than 3 years. I replaced them with used(oem) brushes from another alternator, and it works fine again.

Here is a pic. The mitsu symbol ones are OEM.

My car is a turbo 2 with redline 8000rpm.

For 250CDn could have spent on something more worth while than an alt destined to blow up I would think there should be some reimbursement, even Crappy T has a warranty on this stuff. I think the $300 on a reman is worth it!

If I were going to spend 300$ on an alt. I would either look up a GB that was going on awhile ago for higher output alt's or I would open up my parts catalog and order new brushes and clean up the connectors.
