Rear end - LSD on 1982 RX7-GX
Has anyone rebuilt their LSD rear end? A mechanic suggested that I rebuild the LSD rear end because it is loose. He says that when he moves both wheels in opposing directions they move easily and it shouldn't be doing this.
Any thoughts?
He also mentioned that a 'clutch kit for the rear end is what I would require. ??
Thanks in advance.

It could be that you just need to change the fluid and add the proper LSD additive. My 82 had a LSD in it that wasn't working quite right and a fluid change cleared it up. It is more likely that it needs a rebuild though. I've personally never done it though and would hesitate to do one myself given the very tight tolerances in a differential. You need a pretty good working knowledge of how to work on a differential to do the job, along with a couple special tools. One part out of adjustment can cause the ring and pinion to fail, or improper adjustment on the LSD clutches can cause them to fail prematurely. Not a cheap job to get done at a shop either.

Hi '85rotarypower', thanks for the info. I'll try the fluid change first and the proper LSD additive to see if that helps. I am contemplating driving out to Calgary and getting Adam to take a look. My car could use a decent 'tune-up', since I haven't really had to do much for past 20 something years other than adjust the Mikuni jetting, change plugs and oil and such.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
