ON Stupid Sh#t You've Seen People Doing In Their Cars

Stupid Sh#t You've Seen People Doing In Their Cars while driving.

Yesterday during rush hour on Woodbine Ave south of 7, I'm behind a Red Mini Van the guys in the left lane and is constantly putting on his brakes ???. He finally moves over to the middle lane and low and behold there's not a person in front of him for a 1000 feet, as I pass him I look to see what the idiot's problem is, maybe he's on a cell phone, having a snack, whatever. No a new one for me, both hands are off the wheel and he's flossing his teeth while driving. I'm starting to think all the mercury in the environment is just making people stupid!

By the way about a year ago same street I saw a guy in the morning brushing his teeth while driving his $150,000 Mercedes, and I thought that was the new low but this tops it.

Let's hear yours!

Rick,
That is only scratching the surface.
1 day I saw this lady was weaving back and forth in her own lane, nowhere near the speed limit of the road, and there was no one in front of her.
When I passed her, she was knitting while driving. WTF is that all about?!?!

If it were up to me, just getting rid of all the people who drive Toyotas and minivans, the world will be a better place.

Driving up north on the 401 last summer there was a chick driving a white Cavalier reading Twilight. She would look up every 5 seconds of so to check the road then look back down. I took a pic with my old cellphone, i'll try to find it haha

Probably the dumbest and the most unsafe thing I've ever seen was a black lady driving UP the OFF-ramp at Finch and 400. This all happened in the time span I sat at the red light on finch going eastbound.

You guys are lucky if these are abnormal/unfrenquent behaviours in your area.

In Montreal, you'd run out of tape/memory within the hour.

I've seen a guy driving a tractor trailer on the 401 west of Mavis, reading a novel with the occasional look up at the road ahead.

A few weeks ago some guy turning left turned onto the WRONG LANE (on coming traffic) on the ramp from Highway 7 to Bayview, and kept driving for about 50 meters before he noticed something wrong.

I could fill this thread with 3 pages worth of stuff... I drive approximately 6-7 hours a day everywhere from downtown Toronto to the outskirts and through SCARBOROUGH some days which has got to top my list of worst places to drive in Ontario... Some days get so bad for me that I have to pull over and take a 20 minute break or else I would explode with anger at some of the STUPID moves I see.

i hear you. ppl in the center lane and passing lane going lower then 100km. blocking miles of trafic. driving with there lights off. and only parking lights in the front. on my way back from Sudbury last weekend i saw all kinds of stupid stuff.

one was the guy with no lights on hes in the fast lane (left lane in TO) west bound on 401. i flash my lights at him in return he puts on his right blinker.... im like ok.... wtf.. so i flash at him once more same **** so i figure he wants me to pass him on the right so i do and i forget about him. 5 min later i look back and theres flashing head lights behind me... i notice the dude with the lights off and he dose the same thing still in fast lane doing 110 right flasher on to signal pass right 3 cars flashing there lights at him later and still no dice so i slow down and turn my lights off WOW that seamed to have give him the wright message.

or the lady who was changing lanes no flasher she is now half in her center lane and half in the right lane the car in the right lane is about to get hit it dont slow down speed up or do any thing but stay there. i had to honk and flash my light to signal both cars of danger lol

Anyone been in a traffic jam caused by an accident that happened on the OTHER side? DVP is notorious... Just because of people slowing down to see what happened on the other side it causes a huge traffic jam. It pisses me off.

After driving from Edmonton to Salmo and back again with a trailer behind a Jeep a friend and i have decided two things:
people passing on the right should get their license revoked (except for when the center is turning obviously) and that Alberta drivers as a whole are idiots (not trying to flame anyone as i am an Albertan and love my province)

We would play a game to try and guess who was an Albertan driver and who was a Bc driver, we broke it down to a few simple processes of elimination:

One is the driver driving a lifted truck doing 130 towing a 5th wheel? he's probably from Alberta.

Two, does the vehicle appear to not have signals installed? he's probably from Alberta.

The same goes for Albertan semi's.

I must say i am looking forward to my next vacation if for nothing else than to get back onto safe roads.

I've notice this move recently ppl driving down the center of two lanes (I call it mid-laning)
Their not sure which lane is moving faster so they drive in both.
There's a great book by Tom Vanderbilt called "Traffic" which is the psychology of why people do the things they do while driving and why highways are designed the way they are. It worth the read although sometime it gets a little drawn out.

I drive the DVP every day and this is one of my biggest pet peeves. I just can't fathom why people can't drive by an accident that isn't even happening on their side of the highway...

I had an argument with family members regarding this. And I think the ultimate reasoning behind this, is that people do not understand that the left lane is for passing. You should not be in that lane if you are not passing, period. If a vehicle is approaching you at a quicker rate then yourself, you should move over to let them by. After several minutes of being stuck behind someone, I'm sorry, but if I want to pass, I'm left with no alternative.

I agree that it is dangerous, and very annoying, but understanding the reasoning behind something will help solve the problem. I was amazed at the intervals in which some people told me they check their rear view mirrors. A common rule of practice is about 8 seconds according to my brothers driving school.

My brother's condo is at fairly popular intersection in Burlington, and there is a gas station on the south-east side of the junction. When you exit the station, you can only travel north or east, dependant on which side you exit. I can't tell you how many people have driven into the islands, or came very close before realizing the situation.

I could go on for hours about the stupid **** that I see daily. Brampton is a mess with no construction, and now that there is construction on my route things have become insane. For example, a guy that was third in line to go left at an intersection, passed the two cars in front of him through the oncoming traffic lanes, to make the left hand turn in front of the other two people. Now, seriously, I think that was one of the dumbest moves I've seen in a while.

when im driving on the highway, it feels like im playing a game and all the other cars are npc's. like they can use logic and are just set to do sertain things like change lanes and go a sertain speed regardless of other trafic. so i just drive around them and treat them as such. it helps with stress lol.

I was driving through Washington D.C. (in the Mx-3) once and there's a guy in a van, driving under the limit, blocking traffic, with no lights on. I flash him a few times, nothing. So i decide to move to the middle lane and keep on going, and I watch in my rearview mirror as I see flashing red and blue lights behind him. I saw the cop several cars behind me before I went around and passed but kept it slow, hoping he would be noticed by the cops, glad he was

On the shoulder, yes, but on the highway, hell no. I pass on the middle and right lanes all the time. Even worse when you get 2 cars side by side in the left and middle lane holding traffic doing 100 on the dot. I'll shoot around to the right lane and pass, flash my 4 ways to show my disapproving of their driving, and just keep going.

I was in court when I was working in Virgnia (underglow neons ticket), there was a lady there who got a speeding ticket for speeding up to go around a transport truck on the left, she told the judge she thought she wasn't allowed to pass on the right, the judge corrected her it's not in reference to highway driving. Ya, that's in the US, but still, it's a good example on exactly that.

I'm ALWAYS check my rearview mirror, and It doesn't matter if I'm doing 105 or 145, if someone if coming up, I'll move over as soon as I can and let them by. I hate people that don't move over because they're "already going so fast" so they deliberately park their cars in the fast lane. I let them by, they're not doing anything wrong, so what you don't approve of their speed, so be it, and I like letting them by so they'll come across a cop first if there's one ahead. I did that to an AMG Mercedez about a month ago, taking the US "shortcut" to head from Kingston to Niagara. I let him go, about a half hour later, he was pulled over.

Sorry, I think you misunderstood me. Or I misunderstood myself lol. My point is essentially exactly what your saying.

When people don't follow the logic of the fast lane, we're left with no alternative but to pass on the right. I do think it is dangerous, as people tend to see a space in between cars and not realize how fast your going regardless of which lane of traffic your in, and just come over. This is a bigger issue when passing on the right, or middle lane, as they are essentially just regular traffic lanes, and people pay less attention to people's speed in these lanes.

I don't think that people should be upset about people passing on the right, when they are generally the dim-witted people that have caused the situation.

Furthermore, I don't understand why some people feel it is necessary to uphold the law with minor issues such as speeding. If someone is about to be murdered in front of you, please do something. But if someone is paying for something with 26 pennies, you wouldn't get upset about it.

And that's exactly why I love when people go faster than me, let them get the ticket.

Oh indeed, I'm always cautious of passing people on the right lanes, but by no means should it be illegal unless they inforced slow traffic in the left lane.

Actually the very first weekend that I had taken the 8 out of storage, I was driving down the QEW and brown man in a minivan ran me out of the fast lane and into the shoulder. Was going maybe 120 following traffic, and I was the last in a line of a few cars, so not like I snuck up on him, and he was doing maybe 105-110. I'm honking my horn as I driving on the shoulder, giving him the finger when he looks at me, all baffled like he did nothing wrong.

it happens all the time, my commute is along the 403, from oakville to brampton. It blows my mind how some of these people have their licence. Being that my car is so low, i'm always worried someones going to 'not' see me, and then clip my bumper or something.

In brampton they have 70km/h speed limits but they tend to drive 50. So they always think that their little 98 toyota corolla can make it's right hand turn, but always end up cutting me off as i'm doing 80. And guess what, they don't use the right lane there, just the two left lanes for some reason, so i'm always 'speeding' down the right hand side

That's exactly probably what happened! Mind you, if I was in my jacked up YELLOW Xterra, betcha that wouldn't happen, nor would anyone really want to play bumper cars with me.

The problem we were running into was that we were travelling less than the current speed, we simply could not do 120-130 as everyone does through calgary in the center lane (as a new lane had just opened on the right as calgary likes to do every like 1 km in their city just to merge them back in 500m later) plenty of room on the left and someone comes behind us not liking our speed, speeds up and passes us on the right, we were all clear on the left and trying to make our way to the right hand lane, and this was usually done by semis. the people who are suspose to be professional drivers.

I don't understand that lane opening for a km or so thing, we've got a few places like that down here, and it makes matters worse. And if that's the case, just remember that you don't need to facilitate the person trying to merge, that's there job, but of course you want to leave a bit of space for them.

I have a lot of respect for semi's, and at the same time, a lot of disrespect. Like any other profession, there are people that do their job excellent, and those that do it poorly. My father is a diesel mechanic for a trucking company here, and i've been in a few trucks, and understand just how different it is to drive one, and always try to respect those in them. But quite frankly there are a lot more idiots doing it these days. And the same 'stereotypical' group of people that cause issues in their toyotas, tend to be driving these trucks now. It really is becoming scarier.

I had this happen to me just outside Ajax on the 401. I was on my way up to Mosport and I made a slight detour to look at a 1st gen in Ajax. When I finished with that and got back on the 401, I don't think I travelled more than 500 feet before being snarled in a traffic jam. We were doing no more than 5km/h, maybe less, even stopped at times in all 3 lanes. This went on for at least half an hour!! I was wondering the whole time what the hell is going on, didn't see any emergency vehicles trying to get past us or anything, but I suspected an accident on the eastbound lanes (the side I was on). At about 25 minutes in, I could see a black Dodge Caliber (much like my own) in the westbound lanes with the roof sheared off. As I passed the roofless Caliber, I notice there wasn't even any sign of an accident on the westbound lanes and before I knew it we were doing 100km/h again.

Moral of the story, if there is one, PEOPLE NEED TO JUST PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR SIDE OF THE ROAD!!! I was delayed nearly half an hour because the average person is curious.
