Rear Differential

Hey guys,

I just blew my differential on my 88 vert and I'm looking to replace it, i was just wondering what options do i have in doing that? can i get a TII diff? or something better? The car is completely stock and im not looking into any major performance gains!

Thanks

It all depends on how much you are looking to spend.
To do it properly even with the stock diff (new bearings (5), thrust collar, seals) will run you around 300.

If you want the TII tranny, you'll need

Tii flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, slave cylinder, starter, driveshaft

To put the TII rearend in, you'll need

Tii rearend + halfshafts.

NA trans ---> TII diff requires custom drive shaft
TII trans ---> TII diff requires TII driveshaft

For what's worth, custom drive shaft suck since they only balance to 3000 rpms rotational speed.

ok next logical question... will the TII trans bolt directly to the N/A engine block if I have all the TII components? (Flywheel, pressure plate, etc.)

Yes it will. Many people do this when they want to make their na cars turbo since the na tranny and diff doesnt handle the power as well. you need tranny, flywheel, clutch set, dirveshaft, diff and halfshafts.

Yes, you can do it.
I have this setup on my car right now with the FD torsen LSD.

I did it for the short ratio S4 TII tranny instead of strenght.
If you are putting in a S5 TII tranny, you might want to rethink it since the whole TII drivetrain is a bit heavier, and on a vert, it will make it feel very sluggish.
