We were planning on going Sunday, but it doesnt look like the weather gods are going to co-operate again. It better not be that way all summer like last year..................grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Still re-wiring the car, grrrrrrrrrrr (as well). By the time Dave is finished (I hope today or tomorrow) the car will be a thing of beauty. Every wire, switch, relay, connector, gauge and sensor will have been checked, replaced and rerouted. Most important connectors will be mil-spec as well. It has taken Dave over 60 hours of his time to do.
Dave is working like a dog on the project and he is an electrical engineer experienced in this type of work, but it is a "MAJOR" undertaking and to do the job right is taking ages. It looks great and everything else is pretty much ready to go.
It looks like we will be ready for the next race as the car is within 2 hours of being able to make a brap, brap noise.

Well we had fun with a lot of bad luck.
Had the new CCWs on and new front bumper and new shaved tires. Made it a little quicker.
Saturday Morning practice- went well; the Corvette couldn't pull from us doing same times.
Qualifying -Running the top three spot by our lap timing. Half way the in the session he went off in corner 6 ripped the front end off and killed the new rear ccw rim and bent the rear sub frame.
Saturday race - after fixing the car we find out that the transponder wasn’t working and that we had to start at the back of the 55 car grid. After the first lap he passed close to 20 cars and finished the race in 14th.
Sunday race - Started 14th and knew we had to get by the cars quick so that the leaders didn't pull away. After couple of lap running hard we were into 4th right behind the bmw's. And the viper just a few car lengths away. But late braking at the end of the straight pulled us off the track again and was too late in the race to catch up again.
So that was how the weekend went still waiting to see what we got I think it was a 7th.
One good thing out of that is that we get to take the 30lbs of reward weight from the 2nd place we got the first race and maybe another 20-30lbs depending where we finshed.

I heard alot of people arent happy with how your car is prepared, you have things others arent allowed. But hey, the car looks an ran great.. i wish you the best of luck this season and hopefully you'll be around next season!
So our 340hp 2781 lb race car with used high mile parts that’s been laying on the shelf for years (trany, suspension) is starting to scary people. Let me, let you in on our secret it isn't the car we have, it’s that we have one of the best driver in the series. If our funds were there he would be in Cart by now. If they want us to go to a 2 rotor that would be there worst mistake. Because I know and YOU know that WE can built a 2rotor turbo with a little more hp than our 3rotor NA.
It’s pretty sad people complaining already when there is a viper and corvette in the 500-700 range that probably weights a bit less to.

Im not sure about the viper and also that nissan silvia.
I know for a fact that the 3 rotor rx7 team has been told that they can run the car as it is this year and this year only.
Rumor has it that Castrol said that they would not participate unless they could get more cars on the grid. This is why a couple cars are not meeting the requirements (theyre trying to fill the grid to keep the series rolling)
This sucks for teams like us who already met the requirements but now have to deal with the other teams that get a little advantage.
This series is in some trouble to say the least.

Im not complaining by any means, infact i was most impressed with your car..
I was a little dissapointed with how it was driven but i was impressed with the car and even more impressed with your TEAM ATTITUDE. You are very nice people and i enjoyed talking with some of your team members.
Im not the type to rag on other teams, im just sharing info that was brought to my attention so please dont take this as a complaint of any kind.
May I ask what team you are?
Well I think the car was driven pretty damn good. Considering the damage we had. No front bottom bumper, lip, under tray, Bent rear sub frame, one rear rim was a 18x10 and the other side was a 18x12 one unshaved tire, toe was way out. And we had the 30lb weight added to our car.

I was the brown guy that was asking all those questions about your 20b fc, which is a finely built car may i add.
edit: Im now with team Mazdees, after hearing the good things they said about you, that was when i came up and started talking to you guys. I usually dont just go up to people like that because i dont know if they are nice or stuck up (most are stuck up) Your team was great to be around, and we should have more like you guys out there.

Those new wheels are mad tight yo! lol
I'm not a huge John Bondar fan but I know there are some good people working behind the scenes. I'd offer to help with the series as a steward or official but I'm taking a summer off from officiating and just hanging around with the great guys at CAN SAF!
You think that series has whining and politics? Baaa haaa haaa...

Wow, where does all this stuff come from about the Can Saf car and its inability to run in the series cause of illegal parts. Sounds like some sour grapes by other competitors to me. As some of you may know, I have been involved in the CCTCC Series and before that in th TGTC Championship in an administrative role (I wrote the first year rules package and have been a sounding board for the organizers for years) and have a good idea what is going on.
Just to dispell some issues brought up earlier. Castrol is delighted with their involvement in the series and have signed up for a further 2 years. Toyo is stunned with the success that the series has shown and is in negotiation to extend their agreement. They are showing no issues with car counts and in fact the number of cars in the series has grossly exceeded all of their expectations. At last count I understand that there are over 100 cars registered for the series and more coming from Quebec all the time. The rules package was written to be inclusive and allow almost any stock chassis car to run in the series. It may be placed in a class where it has difficulty winning (like my bridge 4 port in Super Touring) against the top cars, but you can compete. I don't see any issues with most cars as the prep rules are wide open and the speeds tend to be controlled by the tire sizes and allowed aero.
John Bondar, Mike Thornley and Jason Sharpe have done a good job in organizing the "show" with a razor thin budget and have spent the money on providing the best show possible for the fans and competitors. John is in 2 places at once all the time making sure that the events are run as well as possible and is continually upgrading the equipment support efforts to eliminate problems, i.e. Timing and Scoring problems from last weekend and others. A number of new events have asked to be put on the schedule for next year and even the GPT has asked the series to come back for next year already. Wait till you guys see the promotions around the Steelback event. John is doing his best to provide marketing opportunities for the 40 - 45 cars that qualified for the event and all of the other competitors that want to be involved. I know that over 40 cars would like to run at the Steelback event, but aren't allowed to because of maximum car counts for the track and especially for the paddock.
Specifically refering to the Can Saf 3 rotor 3rd Gen, there is nothing on the car, now or in the future that is even questionable. The rules allow for any engine swap within the same manufacturers offerings. Look at all of the older VW's running non-stock 1.8l turbos, the Honda's JDM engine packages or the RX7's running peri ports. All engines were never offered in Canadian versions, but the cars are allowed to compete in a certain class applicable to the capability of the package.
The Can Saf car is driven very well. It is easy for sideline watchers to critique what is going on with a car on-track when they don't know all the issues. I have been on track with the car in question and believe that Kurt is driving as hard as the car can run at any specific time. The 3 rotor, while a cool motor, changes roll centres and requires a ton of fabrication and engineering to race successfully. The car has a ton of modifications made to it, some I agree with, some I think are inspired and some I don't understand, but that is the same as any car on the grid. We are all running to tight time and financial budgets and we do the best we can with what we have. I personally believe that the Can Saf car might run quicker with a 2 rotor turbo as the package might be better balanced and would allow Kurt to show his talent better, but the 3 rotor sounds so good and provides throttle response that only a naturally aspirated car can. At Shannonville, as fast as Kurt was going with an essentially a crippled car, at least shows major cajones and car control up the wazoo. The car must have been a handful. I really am tired of people slagging cars by saying that they are illegal. The rules pretty much make everything legal. Stop bitching, go faster than them or keep quiet until you can. Rules politicing isn't well received, I can assure people of that.
On a seperate note I would advise the Can Saf guys to watch the CCW wheels for centre web cracking. We had that problem with the wheels on the Cobra R I race and had the centres replaced with an upgraded (thicker) web. It didn't cost us much, but the owner of the car finished a race with 2 wheel centres cracked right through.
