Poutine in Montreal
What part of Montreal? Downtown... West Island.... Laval...
Besides chains like Dunn's.... Mmmmmm smoked meat and Poutine - sooo good..... Basically you are safe anywhere that has a French Guy's name in the restaurant name. Something like "Patate Serge" "Frites Claude" or "Cantine Jean-Guy" would be an example.
Man I miss Montreal food! Going to have to stock up on GP weekend!

Was there last summer on july long weekend. I was so stoked for the longest time for some poutine and damn man what a letdown. I had poutine twice from the "best places" and it was **** both times. Dont get your hopes up.

There's a place in Ste Anne de Bellevue that has awesome poutine. It's called "Basile's"
I used to go there all the time when I had friends in school at John Abbot CEGEP.
I don't know where your starting point is, but since I'm coming from Ottawa, it's basically the first exit off the 40 as soon as I cross the bridge onto montreal island.
Here, googlemap your way to this from your location

But honestly no one place has the "best" poutine, you've gotta try a bunch of places, but this one is a good start.

I'll probably be downtown, near Peel.
I've been a regular a la Belle Province on Peel south of St. Catherine.
I'll check out Basile's if I'm ever in West Island.
Schwartz's is the only place for me when it comes to smoked meat.....too bad they don't do poutine! Is it so hard to ask for cheese curds and gravy? They already have the fries!

Well, it really depends, there are different "kinds" of poutines. There's the fast food ones, and there's the fine dining ones.
If you're going to be downtown there's la patate dorée, on St.Laurent st between Ste.Catherine and René-Lévesque.
Dunns famous is good as well as previously noted.
For raw fast food poutine you have Lafleur's... there are a few of them but none are really downtown.
