owning rx7s in Toronto

Hi,

I am considering moving back to Toronto for a year. I have a few questions:
1) do you drive your 7 in the winter? (i fear having to drive my 7 with all that salt on the road and the potential of having a low car act like a snow plow)
2) are there knowledgable rotary mechanics in Toronto?

Thanks!

1. 7s are not suitable for winter, and if you love your car, don't drive it during that season...

I really don't think one winter will kill it, and seeing as you say you're going to be living in Toronto it should be ok, but you venture out of the city anywhere up north, or west, like my neck of the woods you'll regret it pretty quickly.

Amen, I drove my old '89 GXL last winter with fresh winter tires only on the rear and summer treads on the front and the car drove just fine. Even on the icy days the car handled great.

I must say it's all in the driver when it comes to handling winter . . .

I said they're not suitable, I didn't say you can't drive them. you'll be better off with another car in winter, and the majority is that most people won't drive their 7s in the winter.

The winter is harsh on them. If you oil spray them every month, and get them repainted ever 5 years or so, she will be fine. I wintered my Rx-7 ( 1985 GSL), and it was fine. It only went side ways because I wanted it too lol. Infact, I never even got stuck. Manny of my buddies with pickup trucks and 4wd did get stuck, or wind up in a ditch.

and i said they are suitable for the winter. sure you can drive another car in the winter, but there will always be a better car for those conditions.

I drove mine lowered with a bad alignment mismatched used winters in the rear and summers up front and I never had a problem. It's obviously not the best winter car ever but you can get around toronto no problem. The roads have zero snow almost all the time. If you live in a rural area that isn't going to get the snow plowed then a 7 might not work out.

Well the "parts car" is winter driven sometimes but and it handles fine, brakes great too. Mind you, this is an '89 GTU.

thanks for the insights guys. i guess i will avoid going back to TO at all costs then. most people think my FD is new (people ask if it is a 2006 model) so I would probably have to sell it off here or store it. leaving my FD and freezing my *** of in TO seems like no upside.
