ON Ontario insurance: policies for multiple cars?

Most people on this forum seem to have more than one car – their RX-7 and another car for a winter beater, grocery and kid hauler, etc. You might even have two or three RX-7’s, if you’ve really been bitten by the RX-7 bug.

With insurance costs in Ontario rising every year, I would like to know from Ontario members of the forum if there’s anything they do to reduce their insurance costs; e.g. is there an insurance company that writes policies for collector cars or otherwise offers lower insurance premiums for cars that are not being driven as often as the winter beater or kid/grocery hauler?

check out the silver wheel package from Aviva. I can't get it yet as I don't have 10yrs of driving experience but it would've been somewhere around $350 for the year fully covered. This is for cars 15yrs old or older.

Silver wheels is for cars that aren't your daily though. They state that in they're rules but I wonder if they enforce it.

Insure your RX7 for 'everything" in summer, then reduce the coverage to Fire and theft during winter storage.
Insurance has changed (Sept they made changes),so you can pretty well Mold a pilocy to your liking, instead of being stuck with the Old Plans where some stuff was not necessary.

taking out items such as collision, windshield and as a pleasure use only. Silver wheels are inexpensive compared to regular insurance however there are stipulations that you would have to ask yourself what if.....things like not parking at a shopping mall, cant take it to work...call and ask them.

Thanks, I'll give Aviva a call to check out the Silver Wheels insurance.

Funny thing is, my current insurance is with Traders General, who are part of Aviva. When I asked about policies for the RX-7s, they didn't mention Silver Wheels at all. Good to have this information when I call again!

Why would they mention a CHEAPER insurance Policy?.If they can get you to sign one worth 1000 bucks over one that is 250,i think you know which one they would let you Mull over.
IF you don't Know, they won't TELL you,,so the best thing is to Be prepared when you go in to Inquire.
I guess that is why you are posting, right?

If you are insured with Traders General, your policy is managed by an insurance brokerage. For a brokerage to write an insurance policy with an insurance company they must have a contract to provide insurance through this carrier.

Aviva has a number of insurance companies under it's large corporage umbrella, but each company it owns requires a seperage brokerage contract to write a policy with.

It is a strong possibility that your broker has a contract wth Aviva Traders but not with Silverwheels, which is why that option may not have been presented to you by your broker.

wow insurance is a hot topic right now.

i just insured my mazda a few weeks ago. i am through a broker erb-erb in kitchener and i have a 2004 cavalier insured as my dd costing me over 200 a month. i got the 82gsl appraised at $3500 and added it on as a classic and it only cost me $86 a year, i have full comp/collision and $300 deductible. only catch is it cant be a dd and i can only put on 5000k a year... the insurance company is Intact insurance and im only 24 with one ticket and one at fault accident on my record.

hopes this helps some people
