Ontario Emissions question
Ontario Emissions question
Ok now it's my understanding that once a car in this provance reachers 20 it no longer needs to be e tested, so am i right in assuming that i can then just straight pipe my 87 next year with out breaking the emmesions laws?
oh, you will still break the law not having the original equipment on the car. they just probably won't know about it
but yes, no e-test for you after next year, although you may have to do one more before that point to prove that your car is compliant before it gets exempt...

I believe you actually could do that with your car, however I am not 100% certain but if you decide to look into it good luck.

I think you'd have to change your place of residence...IIRC when a car is registered to Johnny XXX the address on your license is what gets written on the ownership.
But I could be wrong.....its happened before

Yeah I thought these laws were provincil as well? perhaps it has something to do with population density in certain counties? Cause well all know NO ONE lives in bruce county - hehe

Emission testing are Regional. There are certain areas where there is heavy population. With More cars, they figure More emissions,so Testing is required to keep Emissions down.(that's my interpretation)..here look at this.. http://www.driveclean.com/
Click Image for Drive Clean Website <hr size="1"> The Drive Clean program applies across southern Ontario's smog zone, the area of the province with the highest population density and the greatest number of vehicles, The program has been implemented in three phases. Phase One, where testing became mandatory on April 1, 1999 was the Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton. Phase Two, where testing began on January 1, 2001, included urban centres and their commuting zones from Peterborough to Sarnia and the Niagara Peninsula. On July 1, 2002 the program expanded to Phase Three, adding eastern Ontario centres such as Ottawa, Kingston and Cornwall and Chatham-Kent in southwestern Ontario.

Historic vehicles exempt from Drive Clean tests Drive Clean’s recent decision to end its rolling age-based exemption for light-duty vehicles from emissions testing requirements only affects 1988 and newer models. They will stay in the Drive Clean program, no matter how old they are.
If your car is a 1987 or earlier model, it leaves the program permanently when it is 20 years old.
Cars currently registered as “historic” vehicles continue to be exempt from Drive Clean test requirements because of their age. An exemption will be recommended for vehicles of the 1988 and newer model years from all test requirements when they reach 30 years of age, if they receive designation as historic vehicles under the Highway Traffic Act.
Light-duty vehicles have been exempt from emissions testing when they were 20 years old, both for registration renewal and ownership transfer. A 1986 vehicle had its last emissions test in 2005 and a 1987 will have its last test in 2006.
1988 vehicles -- which require emissions tests in 2007 -- will need to be tested again in 2009 and every two years after that for registration renewal. Similarly, 1989 models will require testing in 2008 and every two years after that. As well, the requirement for a valid Drive Clean pass for ownership transfer will continue to apply to 1988 and newer models.
Hybrid vehicles continue to be exempt from all emissions tests.
Drive Clean has also sought public comment on a proposal that annual emissions tests be required beginning when a light duty vehicle is 12 years old for 1988 and newer models. No tests would be required for 1987 and older vehicles. However, no decision has been made on this proposal.
you know, my biggest problem with this thing is it does not take into account how MUCH you drive a vehicle.
sure, my rx-7 makes my eyes water and will probably give me cancer, but i probably still pollute less than a Honda civic driving 50,000+ km a year, considering i will drive around 10k km at most.
oh well, i'm not complaining because i am just outside the testing zone...

Still say it a Money Grab. The garages that Have to Test your car even hate it.They get next to nothing to Emissions Test a vehicle. One in Ten Fail.It all goes to the Government.Big-Wigs stick a Fancy Expensive digital DOO-DAD in the shop, and take the Money...shouldn't be called Drive CLEAN..because it's bein Driven right up the "hershey Highway!'..(someone crapped in my Cornflakes today)

The only thing it really does is keeps a car that should have a low level of emissions from running around the streets with an above average level.
But the standards flex so far between vechiles that if you're driving 1 compliant Chevy 2500 series with a 350 its a worse polluter than 3 compliant Civics....but the Chevy still passes because its under "the acceptable limit for the vehicle".
As far as registry goes though.....I need to get me a cottage!! hehe, a mortage might be cheaper than the E-tests - haha!!
(BTW Dave, forgot about your plug wires - they're going out tomorrow!!)
