not to mention where i live there are several sanctioned 1/4 mile tracks, which if i am not mistaken require, helmets, roll bars, restraints, and even wheelie bars and chutes depending on your ET.
if my kids ever want to race i will insist on safety items...

man this topic is getting funnier every time i read it LOL.
Funny thing is, i had a cop follow me for a good 10 minutes one time trying to figure out if the excaust on my fb was legal or not( well atlist i think that was the reason, don't see another one). It was on a small 2 lane, no lights, and stop signs far in between road, i saw him give chase after me with no lights, then just slow down and follow me, i droped my speed from 50 to 35 at one point and switched to a diff lane to see if he would pull away, but he didn't he stayed at the same lane, just slowed down. after 10 min or so he finaly pulled beside me, we smiled at eatch other, and he drove off.
Either he was checked my exhaust, or admiring my fb. Either way it's something i will never forget

I've had cops tail me in my car a few times, and they didn't just tail me they tailgated me. Probably waiting for me to do something stupid and then bust me on it. Or maybe they were checking the car out to see if it was legal. I remember once I was driving down the highway and I passed a cop going the other direction. I turned a corner shortly after, and that cop must have pulled a quick u turn and chased after me, because it wasn't long and he was right behind me.

Well, apparently the cops are retarded... Well I already knew that. They pulled out infront of the gy doing 250km/h with 600m stopping distance... What would happen if his brakes failed?
Read it here:
http://network.nationalpost.com/np/b...-him-over.aspx
"One man faces stunt driving charges and a possible $10,000 fine after police clocked a motorist at 250 km/h early this morning.
The Toronto man was travelling southbound on Highway 400, just south of Steeles Avenue, at about 12:30 a.m. when his Infiniti G35 registered a speed of 250 km/h on an Ontario Provincial Police laser gun. According to police, the driver “had the pedal to the floor.”
“I actually checked the specs on that car,” Sgt. Gerry Lannigan said. “That was as fast as that car can go.”
Police were able to pull the driver over after registering his car on the radar gun from 600 metres away, giving them time to pull their cruisers out in front of the car and force the driver to pull over.
Sgt. Lannigan said the driver gave no excuse for travelling at such a dangerous speed, but admitted he'd made a mistake.
“He knew he was cooked. He apologized to the officer and just sat there kind of stunned, realized he did something stupid,” he said.
The 26-year-old man now faces one charge of stunt driving under the Highway Safety Act, which carries a fine ranging anywhere between $2,000 and $10,000. In addition, his driver's licence was suspended and car seized for seven days. He's due to appear in court April 8. "

You have to wonder about all this attention to street racing. It is statistically insignificant (in US and Canada) as a cause of fatal car collisions.
Makes great publicity for the police, though, and they have obtained significant powers to trample on your rights by making this an issue.

just in case anyone doesnt realise why these stupid laws come about in the first place.
http://www.army.mil/usapa/epubs/pdf/r210_35.pdf
give that a look and ask yourself... "How long until these stupid laws they make up carry mandatory prison sentances?" To me it looks like another case of a law being made so vague and all encompassing that damn near anyone can be found guilty of it in one way or another. They're doing a similar thing with regards to suspected gang members, which is great.. if they actually use it to apprehend gang members. Really looks like our own lil Canadian versions of things like the patriot act/homeland security. My prediction, it wont be long until violating a EULA agreement carries prison sentances for downloading music or watchin a movie on the internet. Furthermore if u really give the bill of rights and the "motor vehicle act" a thourough read it is quite questionable as to the appliciability of these statutes falsly regarded as "laws". Until people start understanding thier rights they are bound to keep signing pieces of paper that give them away.

Checking your registration:
Checking your liscence for warrents, etc.
Checking for any reports on your vehicle, or yourself.
The reason they tailgate you so close, is because:
To induce panic, example would be if your impaired, you might panic and start to swerve, etc because your concentrating on the cop behind you and/or freakin out.
Also to enduce panic incase your hiding something, like drugs or perhaps your not the registered owner and you have a warrent, etc.
Its their way of beating around the bush.

lol, well if you slam your breaks, and he is that close to you, it would be his fault. Since was following to close to have enouph time to stop. You don't even have to slam the breaks. If in our rx-7s we can't see their headlights, a small tap on the breaks, and he will crush into us. Atlist on my fb it's like that. Even when parked i can still see the hearlights of the car behind me unless there is less then 40cm between the cars or so, can't say the exact distance, but you get my point i hope :P

or
you did see me, knew i was right on your back bumper, and didnt care. so you slammed on your brakes anyway. dangerous driving.

If the licence plate is too dirty, then you pull the guy over and give him a warning. Licence plates must be clear at all times specifically so they can check them and ensure they are valid.
Oh I just got a CG-Lock, anyone think they'll count that as a street racing part? Should I be worried? I can still return it for a full refund.
The sad part is, and they know this, modifying a car, at least properly, actually makes them SAFER. A better handling, better braking vehicle will be more capable of performing evasive manouevers than it's stock counterpart, %100 of the time. Providing of course, that the monkeys behind the wheel are equally capable.

I guess the Volvo had a few too many bottles of nitrous... Too bad his parachute didn't deploy in time...

Police haven't identified the driver yet but say he's a 23-year-old man who was driving a Volvo.

this thread makes me very sad...
as previously stated..they target nonsense topics instead of trying to do some constructive policing.
i can't tell you how many times i've avoided accidents from non- "street racers"
they want to prevent accidents? lets start by more stringent testing for seniors!!!!

IN my experience with women, they are far too timid and way too cautious. Too high strung and causes them to freak out more than needed in some scenarios. Though they are not all like that, its just hard not to generalize when practically all the girl drivers i do know (i know a lot) are like this. Even the aggressive ones are still too over cautious and sketchy in close encounter scenarios.
