NEWBIE with a Question

Good Afternoon. My name is ROb, I'm a new guy from Ontario, Canada. I have always been an RX7 fan. I am doing a 302 Convertion over the winter had had some questions.

ANyone on here done this? I'm doing one as my winter project and needed some more details. I tried to e-mail Grannys but the email got bounced back.

Did you use the Grannys kit?

Difficulty of install, it seems pretty straight forward. ANy other tips and pointers would be great thanks guys.

Thanks in advance.

There is a guy selling a Kit on the Main forum for a Ford engine install.Lots of guys have done an engine conversion into an Rx7 Body.Personally 'to each his own".The Granny's kit seems the way to go If you don't want to Dicker with making the mounts yourself. You should also Browse the "other engines conversion" section of the Forum.

Research, research, research. Give yourself a final goal (street, strip, track, HP goals, mods etc. etc.) and stick to it. Make yourself a parts list and start ordering. Have as many parts on hand as possible, so you don't have any down-time.

www.torquecentral.com is a wealth of information. Read and learn as much as you can.

FB or FC swap? What year are you swapping into? If it's an FC, I'm familiar with what you will need and won't need for the swap. PM with any questions.

I've seen both a 2nd Gen with a Ford and a first gen with a Chevy small block. Both used the granny's kit with NO problems what so ever. The Headers were the only issue, which grannys sells, so its not a real problem.

You dont need a rear end upgrade until your hitting about 9 seconds in the 1/4, so put that pocketbook away. Mazda rear ends are good for alot of power, contrary to beleif.

T-5 Transmission fits like a glove in first gens from what I heard.

Thats all the info I can think of off the top of my head.

This depends on if you have slicks (what your 60' time is), how you launch, what tranny you use, and if you have LSD (which you do). Higher torque is a little more abusive to a rear end than lower.

Absolutely correct. Also condition of drivetrain components is key was well.

I asked grannys speed shop about their rear end. They recommended it for cars that run faster than 10 second 1/4 mile. The Rx-7 rear ends are not that much different than a 8.8 ford mustang rear end. Obviously the 8.8 can handle the tourque.

Like an old friend once said, Sometimes wheelspin is a good thing.
