A new sophisticated & interesting scam ...

Hey guys,

This one is new to me but perhaps members have had similar experiences with which to enlighten me.

My wife got a call when I was out from Air Canada's Lost Luggage department at Pearson saying they had found an iPad or iPod with my name and phone number on it. Had I flown in October? I could call them back for details. They left a phone number which matched the caller ID number. A reverse lookup confirmed that it was indeed the Air Canada Luggage # at Pearson and when I called them they couldn't help me with my inquiries without a File #.

Somebody on the net recorded the exact same type of phone call from this # in December 2011.

So the scam is sophisticated in that they appear to be called from Air Canada but not asking for anything. Perhaps relying on greed and dishonesty of it's marks they'll call again and ask me to appear at Pearson to pick up my iPad, after paying a nominal processing fee with my credit card!
