see how long it would take to get stock mufflers
maybe if it takes a long time (weeks on weeks) you can use that as an excuse to get that system, (cheaper and more redily available) even if it probably isn't

I haven't heard your car run but the whole neigbourhood would certainly know if it was a straight pipe.
What RB stuff/muffler do you have installed? We could take a look?
There are lots of noise cancellation schemes - baffling or reverse flow would be a bit quieter and more restrictive.
I suspect yours is probably a high flow, straight thru design - the tube down the middle is perforated with lots of tiny holes (louvers) with stainless steel wool packing around them to absorb all the sound reflections.
A quick search found a decent explanation:

I believe the RB 'street' stuff passes California emissions and sound levels.
If you really want to impress the cop (or have a worse night), you could tell him this is one way to silence a gun.

Cool, thanks for the advice. Theres some useable information there. Namely how it is unfair for each and every officer to differentiate what is loud and what is not. If I can mix that combined with the fact that I bought these mufflers specifically because they were supposed to be quiet, and the fact they pass california db tests, one of the only places which has a db test then it may end up being at least reduced. I will make sure they do pass california db tests since they were made there, and if they didnt it would be illegal for them to sell them.

Good ol' five oh's, always looking for a way to ruin a cruise with some stupid ****. They need to realize that aftermarket exhausts don't make somebody a ricer >.>
I think the mention of the Cali db stuff will help you out a lot. Cali's pretty strict when it comes to cars... so I imagine if something flys there, it should be fine here.

HAHA i had the same thing happen to me. I was at highschool, and there was an officer just outside the parking lot waiting for ppl with "modified" cars. When I phoned the commanding chief and complained about the officer, he said he was watching my car the whole time with a targeting system they now use. He claimed i was revving my engine in my school parking lot, i said no, why the hell would i do that? you know thats cool when you have to drive your sister home from school...So anyways, I hop in my car, turn over the ignition, meh, sounds like anything else, maybe a low grumble. So I drive out of the parking lot, he pulls me over and says, well this muffler looks aftermarket, license and registration. Did you know you did 3 quick shifts rifght out of the parking lot? No, sorry i didnt notice *******, I didnt even get a chance to come out 10 ft of the parking lot. I was biting my tongue. So i reply yes one moment please, here you go sir. Im watching the road as a truck passes me deafining my hearing, sounds strait piped? the cop doesnt turn and look. Then a transport truck passes, blows the cops hat almost off his head. Surely doing 20 over the posted 40km/hr speedlimit. Wow is it just because im 18 years old? maybe i should tell him about the 10 times ive been pold over this year, for absolutely NO reason. Harrasment? defiantely. Anyways $110 ticket. So my court date is Nov.7th, im really getting pissed with this lets harrass anyone with a fartcan on their car crap.
After all of this I decided not to try and fight it. I have quite a bit of other illegal **** on my car, I would rather leave undiscovered. I have been told by a few people that fighting this ticket may result in be being specifically tageted by cops in the future. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen, and I would rather leave it that way. I can deal with a $110 parking ticket if it keeps me from getting numerous other types which are even more expensive. It is ghey, and it only served to reinforce my view of police officers.

In terms of fighting the ticket, because the law leaves it to the discretion of the officer to determine what loud is, I would suggest questioning the officer what training or standards has he had that assures the public that this not simply arbitrarily or inconsistently applied - eg, do they have them listen to a samples at various dB levels and distances, so they have some sort of basis to their judgements? After all, any two human beings are going to have different hearing acuity not only to the absolute volume, but to particular frequency ranges. If you couple this with RB design info and whether it passes Cali noise laws, you may have a solid case to cast doubt on the cop's judgement.

Over the years of owning many sports cars I have learned the art of "blending in" with my performance gear and cars. In the last few years I have not been pulled over in either my Cobra or my RX-7, maybe its because I'm getting old... I donno...
My point is don't give these guys any reason to haul you over... Cops will use the simplest excuse to pull you over then just nail you for every little thing. I have one buddy with a Cobra that got pulled over for no front plate (common with the Cobra guys) and the cop went over his car in detail, everything from his tint to his exhaust to his ride hight! The others (more modded cars) in the group were never touched.
If you do get pulled over there is nothing really you can to except bit the bullit and pay the fines. Technically ANY modifications to a vehicle can be considered illegal. So the less you flaunt it the less likely you'll get nailed. I'm not saying that you're flaunting anything in your case, but he still has ya.
Just my $2.50. Have fun guys and keep that record clean!

For now Custom downpipe +what I have. I would like to do full RB headers back to my mufflers but thats another 500+..... too rich for my blood at the moment. I will make/have made a custom 3" into dual 2.5" downpipe for the setup...
