Look at it this way... a 500hp rx7 might be able to propel itself to a speed of 180mph.... while moving the weight of ONE car. (arbitrary number to illustrate)
My mack truck (139,700lbs GVW) will propell the weight of 30 rx-7's @ 1/3rd the speed.
If you do the math, the truck does more "work" yet has less HP when in fact HP is supposed to be a calculation of "work".
This is why I grasp hp=work, torque= twist but IRL sometimes it seems not to be so.

Unless they intend on using that car to compete in the LMP classes, there's no way it'll be allowed to race in any other LeMans class without it having been a production car with x amount of cars built for street use. I've heard something along the lines of the old (OK, well not that old)BMW M3 GTRs running a production car with an engine that was not a production option (a v8), they got away with it for a little bit then Porsche brought it up to the sanctioning body that the GT classes were for production cars and the engine they were running wasn't an M3 production engine and the sanctioning body ruled in Porsche's favor. A few of the teams switched back to the I6 only to discover that BMW turned around and built like.... 50 v8 model M3s or something so the car met the "production car" criteria. Who knows....... The new M3s have v8s standard so maybe there was som validity to the story? I guess if you guys want a street version of this car, pray they run in the GT class.
They're completely focused on running prototype cars.

taking the under-everythinged LMP2 efforts Courage chassis and throwing the usual recent Mazda styling studio's nutty efforts at it doesn't impress me at all.
at best it is cheap thrills signifying nothing for the Mazda consumer.
the 16X would get my attention if it had low enough static compression (9 to 1 like the 13B, not 10 to 1 as the RX8) to be able to turbo so it could be able to put out 5-600 hp modded like the 13B.
a rear drive low buck rotary RX3 would impress me. (the car that made Mazda)
a new rx7 styled in either the FD or european manner would impress me.
actual hp in the rx8 would impress me. losing the frog face would be a bonus. what a shame such a wonderful chassis was handicapped w no hp and a real lack of aesthetics. (i am trying to be nice)
meanwhile i am real happy w my FD.
while i wish Mazda all the best i am not optimistic.

Yup to bad it won't be a street car, I'll just wait for the rx-9 though.

yep, this (for anyone who fallows racing) was the Courage C65 that BK Motorsports used when they first entered ALMS, it just has been Reskinned by Swift, same motor, tranny, everything. hope they turn the 16x into a R32X, would be awesome to see on the track

Mazda Furai 450HP 3 rotor concept
The Furai is based on a 2005 Courage C65 racing chassis that was used by Mazda in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) two seasons ago. The concept is powered by a mid-mounted, 450 HP three-rotor rotary engine that runs on E100 Ethanol. The Furai’s body was created by Mazda's studio in Southern California led by North American design boss Franz Von Holzhausen and it follows in the lines of the company’s latest concepts like the Nagare, Ryuga, Hakaze and Taiki.
