Doesn't your shipper offer brokerage? I try to avoid FedEx and UPS because their brokerage fees are outrageous and they make self-brokerage such a pain (it's a simple form, they don't even remit the customs and duty until after you have paid them).

Use the mail system. It's WAY cheaper on brokerage as there isn't any. Just the taxes and a small fee.

I so agree....Fed ex & UPS are thieves. I've seen the same exact parcels be charged at two different rates. I simply won't buy from any one who uses them to ship.
In Canada to Canada shipments they can't gouge you that brokerage fee and they have a more fair pricing.
NEVER USE THEM FOR OUT OF COUNTRY PARCELS....GOOD LUCK.
They hold your parcel hostage until you pay.

I have nothing to answer your original question with, but will say the last time I had to order a large amount of stuff from the US, we had it put on a pallet, shipped via freight, and did the brokerage our selves. Filling out the forms was actually pretty simple. Then just went to the freight company with the paperwork and they released it and we were on our way.

Call HOC Global Solutions. They are out by Pearson Airport. I bought a pallet of used printers on Ebay last year and HOC took care of all the logistical details. Arranged for a trucking company to pick up the pallet in the US, truck it to the border, prepare all the paperwork, clear customs, and trucked the pallet to my work. Very smooth.

Through the mail there is no brokerage. Just a postal fee that they set. Plus postage of course. It's quite cheap. Stuff like a fender or big items needs a freight service.....NEVER USE THE BIG COURIERIES ....They will %uck you every time. They really on laymen and consumers using them.....easy pickins on fee's
The only issue with the mail system is the size of the parcels. Anything under 50 pounds will go. It has to be a certain total volume size as well. It a cubed dimension. It can be easily calculated on the web site with simple LxWxH dimensions.
The postal service is by far the cheapest and easiest way to ship Canada to US or
visa-versa
