My Winter Car... Warning not a rotary!

Bought this car, should be fun for the winter, and may autocross it after some mods. Immediate plans for the car.

1. Black Hardtop
2. My old Sparco Wheel
3. Roll Bars
4. Wheels and Tires
5. Strut Bar
6. APR CF Mirrors

I really like the car too!

I did have a question though. You stored your RWD car that isn't good in the snow and replaced it with a RWD, convertible?

If you put some good snow tires on it you'll alright.

He lives in southern BC, snow isn't a huge problem.

I don't understand why some people think RWD is no good in the snow?

First off, winter tires are a must. Regardless of drive configuration.
You put winters on a Miata, and your fun factor has increased 10 fold!

Here's my ride:

I personally consider 2 things a must for winter driving, one winter tires, and secondly a limited slip differential !

Think about back in the days when all there was is just pure rwd cars and front wheel drive cars are a luxury.

They survived the winter without traction control or awd we can too!

Thanks for the comments guys!

I've got some 15" blacked out steel wheels and winter tires ready to go. I live in Vic so there probably wont be any snow, but I plan numerous trips to Whistler and Mt. Washington. And I love driving in the snow and can't wait to throw her around!

Neo I love your car!

Fortune Seven,

Thanks. The Miatas are probably the best fuel efficient fun car you can get on the market. Nothing else compares.

Why a Miata for the winter? Why not a Protege or something of the sort...a Miata is a summer car that should be stored in the winter IMO.

Mike,

I have tried that before. I've had a Mazda3, and Mazda6 as my daily driver. Unfortunately, jumping between a car like that, and the FD, and you realize you can't go back to 4 door sedans. Or any other econo car.

RWD for the win!!!

I would never consider the Miata because they never came with a hardtop. Our winters are brutal as it is. I didn't want to deal with having a removeable hardtop for the winter months. Fortunately Mazda introduced the Miata PRHT. I traded in the 3 in 08. Never looked back!

Where I live currently there will most likely not be any snow. I'm going to have to go up Island or over to Whistler to find it.

When I do, I will be in a 50/50 WD, 2100lb, 133HP, RWD, with winter tires, and a smile

This car is 100% about having fun, it is cheap, and unlike my 7, I don't really care what happens to it. Though I don't plan to be careless, I love ripping around, and having fun with my cars, and I plan to drive and enjoy it in any conditions. With some mods over the winter it will be ready for the next season of Autocross.
