My rx7 plans, suggestions welcome.
Well in light of the "What To Do" thread, I'd figure I'd do something similar.
Project: BEEFY7
Begin project with a 1987 RX7 N/A GX that has been converted to a GXL via Suspension, brake (4pot) and minor other differences. Budget is about $2000 (possibly stretch it out to $3000) Any constructive input is welcome!
Step 1) Tires: Falken ZIEX tires on all four wheels : COMPLETE
Step 2) Fix oil leak : Replace rear main seal according to previous owner in tranny
This step will include other upgrades.
The clutch disk, pressure plate, bearings, seals, flywheel, and counterweight will be replaced as well since these parts will be opened up to fix the leak.
Clutch kit will be slightly better then OEM as the car will be slightly modified.
Now here is where I'm undecided due to cost vs. gains : Flywheel will be a lightweight STEEL flywheel. Approx. 17lbs in weight for preferred results
as the car will be mostly street driven.
This step will be done by a mechanic.
Step 3) Replace spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil filter, fuel filter and fluids if possible.
Step 4) Suspension
This step is fairly basic: Swap JIC Adjustable COilovers from 1990 RX7 GX with my 1987 RX7 GXL
Then install Energy Suspension Polyurethane Bushing kit and Mazdaspeed Motor Mounts.
This step will be done in part by myself, willing friends, and the rest by a shop(bushings/mounts)
Step 5) Exhaust and Intake
Intake: This will be a very functional free flowing intake.
It will combine the use of the commonly used "Prelude CAI" and a BMC CDA (Carbon Dynamic Airbox) kit once final measurements are made.
This will alloy the filter to be inclosed from the heat of the rotary and maintain a good consistent flow of cold air from the outside.
The brake duct will be enlarged for this feature. I hope to use a flared end of piping to create a "venturi" style induction of air.
The exhaust will be a basic Racing Beat Street Header, Bonez Superflo Cat, and a Racing Beat Dual Catback system.
This step will be installed by: 1) intake : myself 2) exhaust myself plus willing mechanic/friend
This step is not in the budget just yet.
Step 6) Fine Tuning and Piggyback/Standalone
This step will involved a SAFC-2 ( or POSSIBLY Megasquirt/ other standalone)
It will be installed and tuned on a dyno by a shop. Shop in mind is DL Motorsports.
