My New 6-port turbo project :)

I bought this car recently It was a good deal, it took abit of work to get the ownership but I have it now

The car is an 1989 GXL with 150,000 km's on it

I've already swapped My black interior from my 91 into the car (took wayy to much time lol)

The plans are for me to build another 6 port turbo it was so much fun last time i did one. I figured I have a Full JDM S5 t2 motor why not

The parts:
JDM S5 intake manifolds (will be ported to match the keg)
JDM S5 turbo
JDM S5 intercooler
HKS super sound blow off valve
550 cc Injectors (will see how this works out lol)
AEM Wideband
RB 2.5" Downpipe/2.5" single side cat deleted exhaust
Turbo2 Aluminum Hood
Full OEM gasket kit set
Haltech E6X (last time I used an emanage Blue worked really really well)
JIC magic Coilovers
FD front brakes/hawk HP+ pads
FD Fuel pump

The difference this time is that I won't be taking as many short cuts I'll be doing a Hard line for the oil feed (Not a high pressure fuel line like last time Yikes!)

I plan to Document everything needed to do a 6port turbo On an S5 n/a motor I can tell you that the last time I did this the driving impression was that there was no lag

Anyways on to pictures of the new car

The new to this car FD fuel pump compared to the Old pump that sat in the car for 10 years

Since these Pics I've put on the Turbo Hood, Changed the rusty sunroof panel and swapped the interior

Black interior?..for summer?
Good luck man..I got readings of 154 degrees Fareneheit inside the car with a black interior.
If my motor blows,I am gonna use the car for a BBQ!

Too true. Dark tint, and a reflective sunshade for the front while you're away do help a lot with the interior temps though. That's assuming you've got A/C for when you are stuck in traffic and the sun is baking down on you.

Looks like a nice, clean find. I like seeing that it has a rotary friend in the next stall in the shot of the driver's door.

Congrats on the acquisition and good luck with your project!
I was seriously thinking about taking this deal from Cloak the first couple of days that he posted the sale. My only problem was how I was going to transport the car back here to Montreal. Anyway, thread subbed to watch your progress.

Ill post some pics of the haltech install when I get the dslr back

but at this point the Stock ecu, harness, rats nest, Afm and map sensor are out

ive got a leaky injector So i plan to use the T2 injectors for secondaries

The haltech harness is in about 70% done I still need to order My Emissions block off plates pull the OMP block off plate from my old motor

Clean up the rats nest so only the fuel lines are left on it

Right now Im torn on weather I should Port match my Turbo intake manifolds and run them or Use my Stock manifolds and keep the 5/6th, VDI ports working

From what I understand from all the reading i've been doing is that A shorter runner intake manifold will make more power up top at the sacrifice of torque

If it helps any with your decision, I used to run an S4 intake on my motors when racing. Even on the S5 engine. Then I bought a motor with the S5 intake and after listening to all the years of people saying how good they were, I put it on and the....car....went.....slower. There was a bit more bottom end, but the car didn't pull as hard higher up in the rpm band.

With the S4 intake (cleaned up internally), the car would actually pull through the rev limiter to about 7800 rpm in 3rd gear when I needed to. With the S5 intake it would flatten out at around 7400 rpm and not pull into the rev limiter at all.

My suggestion would be to use the S4 intake, clean up the ports as much as possible, take the 5/6th port actuators completely out and fill and clean up the bosses in the LIM intake runners and put the Haltech on. If the motor is a sound S5 block and the exhaust works well enough, the car should be a great and fast lapping day car with good around town performance. With a setup like that and a decent suspension, you could get the car in to the 38's at Mosport.

very interesting that you say that

my last s5 na had an emanage on it and I could very easily pull to the 3rd gear rev limiter and it had enough in it to hit the top of 4th (with a long enough straight lol)

maybe Ill throw all 3 on to see what happens lol

My goal is just to have a reliable lapping car that is cheap to keep running

Awesome!!! That literally just brought a tear to my eye. Did you rebuild the engine before starting it up? So good to hear it running again after 10+ years.
Cudos sir. You are my hero!

I changed the oil, put 2 stroke oil in the gas turned it over by hand first, and cranked it with no fuel then added fuel started right up,

we'll see how soon it will need a rebuild I have a feeling the oil control rings are gone in it

Are you still doing the turbo conversion? I am extremely interested in doing the same thing but with an S4 N/A. Also, do you happen to know the link to Aaroncake's site where he step by step documented the conversion process? I did know it but I got a new lap top and lost everything.

i don't follow the aaroncake way of doing the 6 port i use the oem oil drain and oil feed, its cleaner simpler and requires no welding

I'm not going to turbo this car I think im going to keep it n/a and use it for open lapping

I dont think of heard of turboing the N/A that way before. Do you know where I can find more info on that? Thats pretty cool though, N/A's more reliable definitely

^^ No one I know of does it the way I do, its not posted on 7 club either

the drain is soo easy to do, just drill out the hole for the oil to flow through on the front cover the bolt holes are already there and tapped If you have an S5 front cover use the S5 turbo and S5 oil drain it all bolts up and looks stock
