My 73 Wagon

Just found her sittin behind the original owners house!! Plated up till sept. 05!! asking price was $500 but ended up paying $400. threw a 10day on it and changed the fluids and she drives like a dream, minor rust around the windsheild, other than that its very clean. If anyone has any clue what this find might be worth (not that its being sold!!) also i am wondering about changing the rear out for a newer LSD if anyone has any info on this plz drop a line...

Great find! That engine looks a lot like the one in my Cosmo. In fact the whole engine bay looks very similar as does the front end.

so ive been doing a little research on rebuilding the old rotary but its a little pricey for me, so im thinking of going with a fist gen. motor. if anyone has done this and could give me a little info and what mods have to be done that would be great.

Most of the older engines that mount on the front cover should swap right in. There will be some minor wiring changes but nothing too drastic. You'll have issues with the exhaust/emissions system but it's likely you'll be running a set of headers anyway so it won't matter.

If you want to put a newer engine into it, all it should take is swapping the front cover from a 1st gen onto the engine and slightly modifying the mounting crossmember. Match the flywheel to the transmission, then the standard EFI stuff and you're good to go.

alright so im a little late on starting my day by day resto diary but ive been keeping good records, and its that time of year! at least ive got pictures and somewhat of a good memory

DAY #1
Brought the car in the garage and locked her in. I had to start the tear down right away as the night before we received some unexpected snow and i didnt want that sitting in there.

Removed like 10 pounds of crap outa here. i like FREE weight savings!

The next thing that was bothering me was the small crack in the paint on the roof that seemed to be raising out, so i started chipping away and this is what i found.......

Looks to me like someone thought the car was shorter that it is and drove under somthin and it dragged for about 8-10inches. oh well at least its not a hole!!!!

Next i decided to tear the intake and carb off and thats the end for today!!

Day #2

DAY#2

Today is wire day yeehaww :-\ Proceded to take the header off the engine and start labeling the mess of wire left behind from the last owners swap! dont people know about wire loom or even a little tape!!! ???

Ahh i guess it wasnt that bad.. but i still swear ill wrap one of those left over wires round the last guys neck LOL. The next hour or so is a bit fuzzy, not sure if i took to many "smoke" breaks during those wires or if it was the high heat Tremclad  but this is where i left off at the end of today!

Day #3

Yay i received my reman'd starter today from ebay! I wasnt sure if this would work as it was different than the one i removed from the car but with a little help from Tulsa and a few others ive determined it will work

The next thing on the list was to remove the window trim and see what suprises are waiting there...eeww! thats the blackest grimy dirt ive ever seen :o ill be makin sure to keep it clean under there in the future!
That damn dent in the roof was buggin me again and i had to get the grinder out out giver....DAMN the dent grew. so now ive gotta get some body hammers and fix this for good.

Next off came the fenders and front clip, then i found myself drawing all over the car with my finger so i decided hmmmm must be time to go inside LOL

Day #4

Today was a simple day
I have been getting sick of using the back hatch to gain access to the car so i decided i would get the doors opening! 1 hour later they worked like new ;D

But i was still grumpy ;D
