Moving to Canada!!! Can I bring my FC?
I'm supposed to transfer to Ottawa by the end of the year.
I have been researching online since I got home (5:30pm) and I'm still confused. Information is very hard to come by, and its incomplete and overly complicated. I need to know wether I can bring my FC with me by tonight since I've got a potential buyer. If I could wait until tomorow, I could simply place a call to Canadian customs tomorow and ask them all my questions.
I have half-answers to some of these questions, but I'd still like to deal with people as opposed to 50 different .pdf documents. Here goes:
1) Is my FC allowed into Canada? Do I need to pay taxes? Do I need to provide customs with proof of ownership? Do I need canadian tags on my car the first time I drive in? How long can I keep my US tags before I register it as a canadian vehicle?
Obviously, theres 10,000 questions like that. Can anyone please answer a few or point me to a good source? Official canadian government sites are useless.
2) Once the car is (hopefully) in Canada, does it need to pass emissions? Its 18 years old after all. Do I need to somehow certify it as 'road worthy'?
So many questions

Do a seach in the canadian forum, others have already covered this i'm sure.
Good luck. give us a shout when you get in ottawa.
if it's 15 years or older it's not difficult.
As i understand it.
Need to get the car safetied / certified in Canada
Need to pay taxes / duty on it
You will need an emissions test up until your car is 20 years old.

I believe there is less required if you are moving to canada and bringing the car in with you as opposed to just importing one. As far as bringing it in for the first time, just drive in like any other American on vacation does.

I would be willing to bet that Ottawa has a much higher girl to guy ratio than Miami.
Plus, you can't skate on the canals in Miami in February.....
Plus, the Sens will likely be better than the Panthers this year.
But, yeah, Are U Nuts?

I'm surprised so many of you asked me why I'm moving. I figured this thread long dead!
First of all, unlike every sane person on earth, I dislike the warm weather down here. I LOVE snow. I'd rather have hot snowbunnies beside me snowboarding than a hot girl in a bikini at (overcrowded) Miami beach.
Secondly, I went to high school in Ottawa. Some of my best friends live there and I go back to visit often. Ottawa (Canada in general really) is an awesome place to live. Far better than Miami (or any other major US city I've lived in) IMO.
Basically, I love you guys

I imported my 91 vert in last year and it was not too bad. There were some modifications that had to be made to the car. The bumper hardware (foam, mounts, bar) needed to be changed to Canadian spec. The fog lights need to be rewired to be on all the time. I think that was it. Keep your receipts. You can buy the bumprer hardware at a scrap yard.

I just got off the phone with Canadian customs. Since I'll be entering Canada on a student visa, I dont NEED to pass emissions\inspection. I dont need to pay taxes on her either (i'm not allowed to sell the car). This reduces my paperwork to 0 at the border (just show my tittle!). The only issue now is: can my FC make the trip?
If she doesnt, I'm leaving her (dead) on whatever state she gives out on me and calling a cab to the airport
I'd probably end up leaving the tittle in the car and posting a "FREE SHELL" ad on the for sale section
PMing you guys about snowboarding when winter comes!
