Midsummer Update on Project Tina

Just posted the latest update in the 2nd Gen forum. No real point crossposting another copy as I have done in the past, so here's the thread:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showthread.php?t=566383

Soon, very soon. I could start the car right now without the intercooler but I'm going to wait until the engine bay is done.

Wow. A ton of work.

Anyhow I don't think those solid coolant hoses will work. to much vibration in the motor. I think they will crack or to much stress will be applied?

When is the ETOC?

These same thoughts went through my mind as I caught up the history on this build - lol. Very cool , and very thorough series on the build.

Well, I think Phase 2 of the project started about 3.5 years ago. The original turbo-NA project was done at the end of 2001 into the beginning of 2002.

Single now and for the forseeable future.

More and more lately I've been thinking about it. The main problem is demand. I have absolutely no interest in bolting exhausts and wings on Hondas, but it seems that the only way to support a shop is to do that. Even if its a part time operation the space and equipment needed are significant if there is more then one project on the go (there would have to be). Additionally, if I screw up now I just have to answer to myself, shrug off the wasted time and fix it. But if I screw up a customers car, even when I fix it, it would be all of these forms in about 0.003 seconds and then I would be bashed at every opportunity by the armchair jockies. I do hate to say it, but most RX-7 owners are a little concerned with cost which means cutting corners. In good faith I just couldn't let cars leave that were not done 100% to my satisfaction...

It's the couplers I'm worried about. I've heard two different stories in that some people with solid hoses and stock mounts have had issues, some have not. Regardless I'll know immediately and putting in solid mounts isn't too big of a deal.

I expect to have the car running by the end of the month and then broken in shortly after. This winter, big turbo and interior, in the coming spring the suspension. So next summer? Of course when this engine lets go I'm going to get a little wild which will take some serious R&D.

It's totally not worth your (or my) time to make an exhaust from scratch unless there is a lift available. That exhaust is 5 hours of work that too 2.5 weeks.

Microtech LT-8s.

Nice work man!

I love the colour....not to mention that its found everywhere.......who paints their e-fan!! hehehe.......awesome!

I would like to see some dyno numbers compared to a *similar* setup with stock manifolds......no doubt the torque/power curves will be in drastically different locations.

Also, do you anticipate any low-throttle driveablitit issues with that edelbrock TB? (if my eyes serve my correctly its a single plate)

Aaron,
You're always up to something buddy! Great to see the car is coming along. Slow and steady wins the race..

It's been a long time since I've last seen Tina on the road!

I'm all about the MetalCast. I use it everywhere I possibly can because it's so easy to work with and the results are always amazing. Cheap as well...

Hm, that might be challenging as I doubt anyone else around here has a 6 port bridge engine with the stock turbo on it and a similar fuel system...If I swap the stock manifold back on it means remaking mcuh of the intercooler piping. I am planning to try out several manifold designs though.

I'm expecting to have problems at first but they should be tunable since the Microtech has 3 (or 2?) accellerator pump settings.

Aaron, i don't think that is an A1000 fuel pump. Looks more like their "700 HP EFI Fuel Pump"

Should still be enough to support the car without problem.

Yeah, Aeromotive doesn't have a snappy name for the pump I have so in my mind it became the "A1000" and I guess I just continued on using that name...

Lookin good Aaron. Hope it all works out good for ya. You did a real nice job on the exhaust though. I'm all about doing my own work, and exhaust happens to be my favorite fabrication job. For some reason I just love working on an exhaust.

Anyway, mabey this project will be done sometime in the next 3 years? lol, just messin with ya. I'm sure you want it all done right, and your attention to detail is admirable. Good luck.
