Go Hard....or Go Home
Sorry about my comment Ian, but I just have a tough time with that guy. He has said some not very nice things about others and hasent helped me when I have seen him at the track.

Go Hard....or Go Home
Just for an example we were at a test day and I was asking about the new car. I know he has a Saenz sequential tranny in the car and I have been pondering one. Now keep in mind we have different cars and run in a completly different series. I asked what ratios he had in the tranny, and he said he put to much time in figuring it out to tell me. Another RX-7 driver Paul Viera bought one and wrote down the ratios he has for me. That same day we had vibrations problems and he didnt want anything to do with us to try and help. The racing community isnt like that normally and we will share parts or whatever to help each other at the track.

Dave has been pretty good with me, I think that the problem with dave is that he is just too old school, in the sense that he rely's alot of what he tested and did and knows what works. Like for examples when he saw my headers (Which are btw SDJ headers and by this forum probably one of the best headers out there) and called them a piece of crap because they're made of thin wall SS. And went on braggin that he could of done me one for cheaper and would of came out better. Now I don't doubt that he can make a good header, but to call an SDJ header a piece of crap is ignorant.
Now the other thing too that he probably gets and the vibe that I get out of him is that he usually hates new young customers. He doesn't seem to like the people that come in to his shop and basically do their cars like the Fast and the Furious. That might loose a few customers but I kinda have respect for that too.
Another thing that I find, is that dave doesn't like dealing with second hand bought stuff, especially carburator. It seems to frustrate him when people change things inside and don't document it and stuff. But that to me tell me the guy likes to be organized. A bit extreme you may call it but each to his own ways.
Overall though, we can't deny that the guy does have alot of experience and trophys under his belt and deserves some respect. Also you have to understand that some people aren't as sharing as other (I would probably bet that he doesn't like sharing much information because he has been screwed over by others before, because really some people will do anything to win a title at a race). Also his lack of "internet" time takes that away too, on the internet especially in forums like these, we rely on each others information and thats what makes a forum. When you don't do things like that, you kinda miss out on stuff. But like on this forum you will find lots of great people with tons of knowledge, the some that I know i would include:
Jeff20B (with all his electrical knowledge especially in the ignition area)
Judge ITO (I would consider him one of the best engine builders that I know)
Muythaibxr (Writting MS codes especially for the Rotary community is huge for me)
These are the 3 that are ontop of my head but there are many more. Maybe one of these days one of us can talk to Dave and try to get him come and join this wonderful online community and hopefully he can come and start sharing some information.

Dave was talkin to me about the dyno a while back.. im very happy to see that the wheels are in motion now, all i will have to do when its up and running is go across the street to get dyno'd sweeeeet!
Everyone here has their own opinions on others, i hope for the others that are reading this, that they wont make judgements without actually dealing with Dave. His workmanship is second to none, if you want something done right then you can count on the fantastic tech's at Mazdees to get the job done properly.
