Mazda's show for the Detroit Autoshow
Ummm, you do realize this is a concept car, based on a race car. So about as close to production as it gets will be having a rotary, and maybe the basic lines of the front fenders (which look RX-8 derived). Even the basic silouette is very race car-based - a mid-engine race car - so the basic shape would have to change a lot to turn it into a sell-able car with room for at least 2 and some luggage. It's supposed to be a preview of Mazda's upcoming "design language" - which based on this and previous concepts in the series, looks to embody sharp creases but flowing, natural forms.
At least it diverges from Ford's "New Edge" or Cadillac's "Science & Technology" design themes - which have produced some exceptionally awkward and ugly cars, IMO. Not to mention Chris Bangle-ized "edginess" in BMW's.

Hey guys, I'm Ben from Jalopnik.com and I'll be covering the Mazda Press event on Monday at the Detroit Auto Show. First pics should start going live around 2:25 pm on our site of the Furai and the 2009 RX-8. We're interested in what you guys want to see from photos and coverage, so feel free to spill it here, or email me directly at ben@jalopnik.com and we'll be your eyes on the floor. If you want detail of that shift ****, or intake manifold, ask and we'll do our best to post it to our galleries. Anyway. That's my bit. If you don't mind I'll dump a link in here when things start heating up.
Does everything count? lol ... on a more serious note, if you could try to get engine bay shots not sure if they will have the engine in there or not, but i would like to see if they're using the 16x rotors that they're been developing or just hte old 20b engine with a few tweaks. Interior shots of the guages and seating area. I just need them in good quality
lol I'm going to try to make it down just for that car.
PS: ... anyone know if the passport thing to cross the border is manditory now?

Try to get them to pop open the rear of the Furai. Take some pics of the engine.
Getting some pics of the interior would be nice too.
As for the RX-8, as many detail pics of the changes they made would be appreciated.
Front and rear bumpers, a nice side profile shot, and detail pics of the interior would be nice. Specifically the new center console along with the gauges.
Thanks,

We will be doing our best to get what you guys are looking for. You'll have to forgive us, but we're fighting autoblog this year for eyes so I won't be able to post them directly to this forum right away (though I promise to circle back and post some good stuff). If you want your fix asap keep up with our site at that time and I'll try to get it up as fast as possible.
holy crap, i got it all guys
I got pics of everything - EVERYTHING - engine pics, detail close ups, interior. it's so flippin' gorgeous!

Thanks Ben, always enjoyed your site also. First learned about it when I started following the Bullrun. If anyone hasn't seen the video of the car on track then it can be found here:

You know, it was a bit disappointing. It wasn't as fun packed as it was previous years.
Regardless, I got some great pics coming up soon.
You decided to back out at the last minute?
