Mazda Canada wants to meet ...

I saw this on the RX-8 club posted by Footman:
http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.ph...27#post3881827

Mazda Canada wants to meet us, enthusiasts

Hi everyone, I got the ball rolling and managed to convince Mazda Canada it's a good idea to do a meet/greet event at their HQ, in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

55 Vogell Drive.

Read this here on Mazda Canada's facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/#!/mazdacana..._t=share_reply

I encourage (demand), since we are all enthusiasts here, to descent upon that invitation like flies on ****... okay that was a bad analogy but you get the idea.

Send your contact info and express YOUR IDEAS/praises/concerns to...

Yes, it has all been prompted by my post immediately following their claim of supporting motorsports. In another thread in this forum I asked for others to speak up and here we are...

Alright, let's get a few things straight.

Firstly, Mazda Canada doesn't want to meet with "enthusiasts" just yet as this thread title states.

I took note of Mazda Canada's post concerning supporting motorsports, being the leading manufacturer in that respect, etc. and called them out on it. I took it viral to a light degree and wham, almost seventy "agrees" to my opening statement.

The ensuing discussion on Facebook is about supporting Mazda Motorsports in Canada, at all levels from purchasing parts to lap your car in Solo or Time Attack to professional teams entered in the Canadian Touring Car Championship like we are.

Mazda Canada posted:

"Again, thank you everyone for your feedback. We definitely understand where you’re coming from.

Mazda Canada does financially support several Canadian racing events, such as the ALMS, Star Mazda and MX-5 cup series at Mosport, and Continent...al and Star Mazda series in Trois-Rivières. And we are very proud to say that Mazda has had a number of Canadian racers compete within the MAZDASPEED ladder. Recent/current racers include Sylvain Tremblay, James Hichcliffe, Michael Furfari, Taylor Hacquard, Chris Cumming, Arrie Maree, Michael Vincec, David Ostella, and Mikael Grenier. In addition, Canadian Mazda-powered racers do have access to our MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development program.

Having said that, we agree that there’s more that we should be doing to support you. (as in Canadian Mazda race teams and grassroots competitors)

As a start, Andrew Wong had a good suggestion and we’d like to act on it...anyone interested in a meet-and-greet luncheon with Mazda Canada please send us an email with your contact info to: ........................."

This is not a "meet" in the terms most of you are use to. I am going to suggest that I put together a group of 9-10 people from various levels of Mazda-based motorsports participation to meet with the Reps and discuss future support including everything from:

* Working with Mazdaspeed in the states to secure another carrier so that we don't get dinged with the mandatory $40 UPS charge when you order parts

* An annual Mazda sponsored lapping day at the Mosport DDT perhaps

* Greater involvement in the annual MOM including supplying prizes.

* Possible financial support for professional teams in high visibility series.

* Contingency programs for a selection of series in Canada.

They are interested in gathering ideas on how to support Mazda's motorsports presence in Canada. Mazda Canada has only opened this door once or twice in the last decade so let us try and finally lay a foundation firstly with motorsports that can support and include enthusiasts once we've cleared the air over racing.

So please, hold off on your emails until I can assemble a group of people to meet with their representatives. If you actively participate in motorsports in your Mazda and have some valuable ideas or constructive opinions to share then PM me a brief description and leave me your email. Again, it makes sense that I select 9-10 people to join me at Mazda.

sounds like an amazing opportunity.

i'm concerned at what kind of statement it would make if mazda canada sends out the invitation for a meet and greet, but only 10 people show up. I think having an all out meed in the parking lot but only have those 10 people actually discuss idea's with the mazda authorities.

never the less, i await the results from 3 provinces over.

Just a few comments...

The whole MOM thing involves more than motorsports (or should I say less). It was started by the Miata guys not us. We should be careful with the relationship with the MOM organizers and Mazda Canada as the earlier collaborations didn't work out for both parties. Unfortunately it's the disgruntled/unhappy ones that usually speak the loudest which caused the relationship to sour. My advice from past experience is to keep an open mind and listen to what people want. Not just rotaries but all makes of Mazda.

Otherwise keep up the good work. It's the enthusiasts and the people behide the scenes who volunteer their time that makes it happen.

Wow rx8club you fucked up...
It seems those guys just want to turn this into an amateur show & shine at Mazda HQ... fanbois....
I thought (as RacerJason keeps trying to point out VERY CLEARLY in his posts ) that this was about Mazda motorsports and not about the people who drive their mazdaspeed components on the street.
Sure, we could have a meet and greet there, but we would be there to show our support for the racing community (from grassroots to professional teams) would we not?

It's kinda funny how the talk on the 8 site has been going on for a while, starts here, has the same tempo for a couple posts, Racer Jason sets the tone on post 8 and then everyone diggs on the 8 club? And "seperation" from the miata guys? Then posting on the 8 club that the 7 club and protege clubs are being jokesters at the 8clubs thread?
I agree that this is not a show and shine.
But being the soon to be third oldest generation of RX's, knowing that Mazda races RX8's and Miata's, separation is not the most advisable.
I'm not trying to be a wise ***, but getting together as a complete unit will make this work.
Selfish attitudes aside, there are many Mazda folks that are suitable for this event and they are not all on these forums.
Should I not be allowed to go because there are 0 events that happen in the South Point of Canada. Or because I own a decent RX8. Or because my Austin 1100 is being fitted for a 13b-rew. No. I probably won't go because I am a rotary enthusiast, not a Mazda enthusiast.
Thanks for reminding me why I spend my track dollars in Michigan and Ohio.

Can someone who is able to attend please raise the issue of organizing a Mazda2 spec series or spec miata series like there is in the US?
