Thumbs up Mazda Canada Grows Canadian Grassroots Contingency Programs

Not a lot here for me, as I would have to drive roughly ~1000km to go to the nearest qualifying event, but a tip of the hat to Mazda for stepping up to support some of their enthusiasts in motorsports:

It's nice to see Mazda get involved in amateur racing, I see Sigma(SRTA) is included in the contingency program, great to hear as they are a local TA series.....good job Sigma for getting recognized.

Who else wants to spend some time in Nova Scotia this summer competing in the Spec Miata championship?
Bruce had an amazing experience last year, and ended up making the top 4 for the Mazda Shootout. Anybody else want to try for a $75K sponsorship package? Would be great to see a Canadian take it.

Good little thread about his experience here:

If you read the article you will see they mention eligible Mazda cars which probably means only newer models that Mazda has interest in promoting so they can sell new cars. That's generally the bottom line for OEM's.

For 2013, Mazda Canada is paying contingency awards, for those competitors who are racing eligible Mazda race cars, and who place well in events organized by these five series. Class structures, schedules and vehicle eligibility dictate that the contingency prizing has been customized for each organization.

If you look at the Mazda Motorsports website, it's any Mazda or Mazda-powered car.

There's no interest in promoting newer cars over older cars, it's just getting the name of Mazda out.

Heck, I could probably get contingency award with a rotary powered Ariel Atom.

Just got this from Mazda Canada, hope it clears things up!

"The highest placed, 2nd highest placed, and 3rd highest placed Mazda racers in either of your two classes, in any SRTA-organized race event, and who meets eligibility requirements, at one of your (maximum) 5 SRTA events in 2013 can earn contingency as follows:

1st highest - $150
2nd highest - $75
3rd highest - $50"

"Please share this with your membership as you see fit, and urge them to meet eligibility requirements by registering and adhering to decal requirements at:

MAZDASPEED MOTORSPORTS DEVELOPMENT - Registration Read Me"

This means, Mazda racers don't necessary have to be any of the top 3 places at an SRTA race. The Mazda contingency payout is a race amongst the Mazda racers and the payout is guaranteed at every SRTA race. For BOTH Classes A and B!

SRTA will publicly announce this on our site and various forums once we're ready to officially kick off the season. Hopefully this can really provide some incentives support to our Mazda racers, and don't forget the regular SRTA payout!

Mazda ROCKS!!!

Registration for the Mazda Motorsports program requires a racing license. Are we supposed to use a CASC ID card or is the SRTA series now a sanctioned body?

It does not require a racing license. I've held a Mazdaspeed Parts Buyer membership with and without a race license.

Either pics of car build in progress (will require you submit results within 12 mos. (but they aren't sticklers for this)) and/or proof of entry in a sanctioned event Solo/Autocross/Gymkhana/Circuit/Drift etc. or results from events recently entered showing your name using a Mazda vehicle.

Ok, I am now registered. Is a "competitor" considered any Mazda vehicle or do they also need to be signed up with the program? Does out-placing all other non-registrants count as a win, or do they all have to be part of the program? I don't want to be putting decals on my car for nothing...

Minimum # of Competitors Requirement
All payout amounts require a minimum number of competitors in the class*
- To be eligible for the full (100%) award amount listed, competitor must finish ahead of at least 3 other competitors in the class
- If the competitor finishes ahead of just 2 other competitors the award amount is reduced by 25%
- If the competitor finishes ahead of just 1 other competitor the award amount is reduced by 50%
- No award is available if competitor is the only car in the class or if they do not finish ahead of another competitor.
