Matrix Tranny Flawed?

I was just wondering if anyone else here drives a Matrix. My wife's car blew a bearing and took out three gears. The car has 120 000kms. Problem was that we neglected to change the tranny oil. However, both the dealership and Toyota HQ chipped in and brought the cost of a $3000.00 new tranny and 6 hours of labour down to $1495.00 taxes in. I couldn't find any official recalls (thanks Nismo) but I was wondering if this is becoming a problem for those cars.

I have 72+K kms on my Corolla which is has the same engine/tranny combo (if you have the base or XR). No issues with my tranmission, but of course tranny oil has been changed at 48,000 kms as per Toyota as I wanted to preserve the warranty. You were lucky that they gave you a deal on the transmission. How were you able to get a deal when you clearly neglected to maintain the car as per Toyota's schedule? I am sure my dealer would have said you are SOL and sent me on my way. Connections???

Small town connections - yes...and the fact that we were **** about maintanence for the Tercel we owned before. We've been buying from this dealership and using their garage for years. There's also a good will program that goes for approximately 20 000kms beyond warranty. In fact, they even offered to let us pay $150.00 a month without interest if we wanted. We elected to pay it off right away.
