long trip

so ive finally gotten my pennies togeather for an FD and it looks like its comming from socal. the plan is to fly down and drive it back to vancouver (just outside of it acutally)... somewhere around 18 solid hours of driving (that i deffinatly wouldnt do all at once..... maybe with a case of redbull though...). Anyhow, I did a search and found a few posts on long distance trips and so far ive gathered that i need to:
1)raid my toolbox for nessassary tools to do minor fixes
2)bring a case of oil just in case
3)get some filters; oil, air, fuel
4)some sparkplugs
5)some belts incase one snaps
6)some coolent hoses incase one cracks
7)extra coolent

anyone have anything that i should add to that list or some things to look out for from experience? I'm pretty sure the trip would go fine *knock on wood* but you never know.

...atleast gas down in the states is affordable.... my last fillup was at 135.9/L

Whatever you do, drive the "One" (Highway #1) at least until you reach San Fran. The drive through Big Sur and Monterey will blow you away.

I usually don't bring anything special for long cruises in the FC, I just make sure that there is always a few quarts of extra oil in the bins. The key is having a well maintained vehicle.

i would suggest a 4L jug of water aswell. used for mixing the coolant, washer fluid, drinking if that thirsty, throwing at other vehicals that try to run u off the road. u could pour the water out and fill it again incase u don't feel like stopping at a road side rest stop in the middle of the night. or if u feel like washing the car.

haha that sounds like a good idea.. i should probably make some waterballoons though since they would go farther... LOL

&& i dont know how well maintained the car has been since i havnt been the one maintaining it *crosses fingers*

I'll be sure to take lots of pictures then start up my own thread on my car progress and whatnot.... if anyone gets interested.

honestly cars are like a lot of things that can possibly "break".
if nothing happens for the first 100 miles or so of the trip, then most likely nothing will.
you can bring along the usual fluids and what not, but if there is something seriously wrong all the oil and water in the world won't help.

maybe also have some backup plans in case things go horribly wrong.

Not boosting on long trips usually helps. Even if theirs something wrong, this will decrease the chance of it getting worse. Plus you save on gas.
