Little Mosque on the Prairie
A new comedy on CBC about a guy who moves from Toronto to the Saskatchewan prairies to become an Imam at a mosque. Comes on tonight @ 8:30.
The sort of humour: As he's at the airport, ready to depart, he's on his cellphone with a friend of his? "Really? Oh man, that's da bomb! No, that'd be totally awesome" Airport security intrerrupts him, dragging him away saying "Come on, no flight to Paridise for you today."
The daughter wants to dress more like her friends, and surprises the elder Father by appearing in a tiny tubetop and spandex pants.
Father: "I can see your belly button! You look like a Protestant."
Daughter: "...don't you mean prostitute?"
Father:"No, I mean Protestant".

It was OK. Not great, but OK. Kind of quirky, subtle humour that I assume most won't get...
Ultimately I don't think it will last very long simply because 90% of people can't identify with it. Most don't know when Ramadan begins or ends or even what it is, for example.

I thought it was okay, but it seemed like typical Canadian TV fare, a little cheasy. It certainly didn't warrant the hype.
On a brighter note CBC now plays re-runs of Arrested Development.

I am white, and born in Canada. I can identify with it just fine. How many people live in a rediculously small town in the praries, and work at a super small gas station? Yet how many people watch corner gas?
Interestingly enough, I find it funny considering more then 60% of Canada's population lives between Windsor and Quebec city( I think it may be close to 80%), and yet their are hardly any shows on the CBC about life in Ontario. Ironic.

Canada's population (from Stats Can) 32.78 million
Giving Ontario 38.2% of Canada's population.
If combined with Quebec's 7.54 million, you do get 61.7%. Most networks wouldn't want to touch a comedy that spoofed Quebecois with a ten-foot pole, however, ripe with opportunity tho' the target may be :P Which probably means someone should do it.
FWIW, my perception is pretty much most Canadian shows on CTV and CBC are pretty Ontario-centric, dare I say Toronto-centric, whether they are explicitly set out as such or not (Corner Gas and DaVinci's Inquest being notable, and successful exceptions). I will have to look out for Little Mosque.

i thought lil mosque was funny, but arrested development is much better.
cbc is good for their documentaries, ever watch planet earth? or the confidential series? or Nerve? And don't forget, CBC originally funded the first 2 seasons of kenny vs spenny before showcase/hbo bought it. cbc is great

It's two years later. Anyone still watching the show?
I watch it but only because there are a few instances of funny in each episode which hold together the rest of the show. In general it's based upon uninteresting stereotypes, there is little character development and the humour is rather dry. But for 20 minutes (PVR and skip the commercials) it's a distraction with a few good laughs. I guess I could say the same thing about Corner Gas, though I've never seen an episode because the commercials are just so lame I feel I would loose brain cells by watching...
