A little help?

I bought sport suspension for my Audi A4 and learned pretty quickly that I'm going to need a spring compressor to remove the old spring to install the new one. Rather than paying a $250+ for the tool I'm probably not going to use again, I was wondering if anyone had one I could borrow.

You can go to Partsource, they have a loan-a-tool program that's free, you just pay a deposit but get it back when you return the tool.

Ding ding ding!

Be forewarned... it gets a little tricky with the front end in the A4. When I installed Bilsteins and H&R springs in my B5 I had to use a ratcheting tie-down strap to compress the spring even further. The A4 front springs are LONG when uncompressed!

Unfortunately I think the fronts are very similar whereas the rears are completely different.

Good thing they redesigned the rear suspension. I've had to replace rear wheel bearings on every single B5 I've owned (I've had 3 A4s and a S4).

Good luck! Remember to lay the shock flat on the ground and keep the direction of the potentially exploding spring away from you when you take off the top nut!

Today didn't go well, requires special tool as well. I'm just going to take it to a small shop and say "do it"

Yes, my username is familiar because I use the same user name on all forums.
