On last night's episode of COPS:

...we decided to pull over an unsuspecting RX-7 driver, just minding his own business .

Why, you ask.

Was he speeding. No. Racing a mustang. No. Driving recklessly. No.

We pulled him over and gave him a ticket for having an illegal exhaust system (according to the officer it was too loud for his sensitive ears.)

We suggested to the driver that he should have his mufflers replaced, knowing full well that he would go to Crappy Tire right away to swap out his GReddy Power Extreme exhaust with a Motomaster Special...

Yes, another triumph for law enforcement.

Re: On last night's episode of COPS:

Is this all you have to do bothering honest citizen???

I can't believe we pay your salary with our tax!

A muffler...What's the problem with that???

When you see a Hells with a muffler on his harley why
you don't arrest him???

"Yes, another triumph for law enforcement"

No. Just another way to show your stupidity. I have friends who are cops and I respect them in every
way because they doo their work:

They protect and serve!

This is why we pay you!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I'm not saying my exhaust is quiet. But it really just seemed like an excuse to pull me over and make me sweat...

It took him over 5 minutes just to get out of his cruiser, like it really takes that long to punch up a plate number on his computer...

Bah!

too bad cops don't know better...

for example: that RX-7 drivers put exhaust systems on their cas because it improves reliability, not because we WANT to make more noise (although it's nice at times )

If they would only listen instead of being so stubbern

There are no quotas (at least around here).

Damn the police!!

Instead of pulling over RX-7 drivers, they should be pulling over Mustang/Camaro owners!! They should be thrown in jail for having bad taste!!

Just my opinion...

Did I mention I loathe domestic cars?

They will never say that they have quotas, I think there's even a law in Canada that says it's illegal to have quotas, but.... let's just say that they(the cops) are evaluated monthly on their prevention (aka number of tickets given out)

And here, it is known that a provincial police cruiser has to bring in 30 000$ in revenue PER MONTH.
As for city cops, it varies from city to city and supervisor to supervisor.

I went and lived in Nashville for a little while when I was about 19, then I came home shortly after, and when I was watching CoPS one night, low and behold, I see my old apartment complex on, and the fuzz bashing someone's door down. Just to qualify, the reason for me being there has nothing at all to do with country music.

1."Yes, my exhaust is loud, it improves reliability!!"
2."My car has the same displacement as some hurleys, that's why its so loud"
3."Rotaries came that way!"
4."Someone swapped out my stock exhaust when i wasnt looking! "

That's me.... loud loud exhaust without consent.... I got pulled over for having noisy exhaust late one night, but little did they know I wasn't driving it hard... i went through a 20 minute speal with this idiot cop about how it wasn't loud and it came that way from the factory.... and he claimed he'd give me a ticket for being a smart *** along with the noisy exhaust ticket.... In kind words I told him to take a hike, that he couldn't give me the tickets cause "I recently had the car inspected and being new at this whole thing you can't give tickets to "non" modified cars, if that's wat the dealer says!"

It worked that time... about a month later the bastard got me for a parking infraction, and my friend too. I guess he remembered me and the car.... and then I tried to get out of that ticket and had to talk to him again.... I just wish that he woulda chocked on a damn donut!

bad boys... whatcha gonna do when they come for you?

He tells you he's gonna ticket you for being a smart ***, you tell him you're gonna have to put him under citizen arrest then, because he's being an even more smart *** then yourself

it pisses me off that cops try to force law enforcement even when there aren't any laws being broken at the time.

Well, according to my dad (police officer of 30+ years, worked the streets for 24+ years, on a desk for the last 6) there are no quotas. HOWEVER, if you give out very few tickets, they do question (rightfully) whether you are doing your job...

Aaron, that makes sense.

And, as I said, I only know of 2 police stations here that "recommend" 300 tickets for the month, for the station.
Which by my calculations were about 3 tickets per cruiser per shift. not a hell of a lot.
But still if they were pretty busy during their shift, they gave pretty lame tickets in the few free time that they had. thank God, I knew them so they let me go everytime, it got to a point where they knew my car and just signaled hello

As far as the 30k a month for provincial cops, I've contributed my share on that one. lots. Back in the good old days I used to bribe them with Expos' tickets, but now, who wants to see the Expos anyway?

The cops would love me now...

The left muffler came off on the way to an interview last week. I must have made a great picture in the parking lot of a doughnut shop, wearing a suit and beating on a muffler with a torque wrench to knock the damn thing off so I could get to the interview.

No muffler and only one cat makes for one hell of a loud drive....

Simple if they can't prove that the Decibals were too loud EVER as they can not recreate the amount of throttle that you were using at the time and that they would have to prove the exact amount of throttle that they were using and that they would have to put a db meter on your car. if they don't then you should be out of a ticket "MANY TIMES" for me anyway! everytime same judge.
That Law is weak and full of laws

When I was in a parking lot in Markham I go to rev it up to 3g's to get my car going, and the usual backfire turned into a KABOOM pop-ring...thunk thunk thunk sound...
A section of my exhaust system has just seperated itself from the muffler. And, after 5 hours of driving today...I want it to be louder!!!!
