Wow, I think you were just very unlucky Sam! I wonder if they were really doing the roadside emissions things or if they were just doing general roadside pull overs? Shocking that they knew exactly what was going on with your car! There's no reason the emissions equipment needs to stay on the car. Weld something up, get the okay and carry on your marry way. Odds are you'll never get burnt again. I see you driving all the time. Alternatively, weld up a mock cat on your exhaust.

Not all cars have an air pump, how did he know yours was removed as opposed to simply not equipped?

Ah, the blessing of having a Quebec plate. They could pull me over, but I think they'd have trouble with the paperwork of giving me the fine. I doubt it's one of the things on the transfer list between the provinces, since Quebec doesn't have any emissions testing (though they do have the "present and intact" clause for emissions equipment on the "safety check" when you first get plated)

When I got a safety check done on my car when I moved from Ontario to Quebec, I had no air pump and no cat, and they never said anything about it. I only had the rats nest left (which is now removed), my exhaust consisted of a header with a straight pipe to a magnaflow straight through. The guy checking my car stood for about 2 minutes looking with a flash light down my tailpipe, he really didn't like it, but I guess he couldn't do anything about it. So I guess your right, if you got pulled over in Ontario with a Quebec plate, they would have a hard time doing anything about your emissions equipment.

I could be wrong because it is a long time since I have read the safety requirements, but I am fairly sure that emission equipment is not part of a safety. As long as there is an exhaust system without any leaks, it should pass safety.

^^ hes talking about "safe tying " a car with SAQ or what ever the Quebec public insurance board mandates.

They do a safety inspection and a visual emission inspection to make sure stuff is there.

my fc will need an inspection at the end of September...
monster streetport, haltech, bigger turbo, RB REV2 complete exhaust, denso 300 lph fuel pump, running premix, all emissions removed....

but i know a place where you pay the guy 100$ and you pass the inspection !!!
for once i can screw the quebec government....
