ON JDM Import Process

Hey guys,

Figured I’d do a little write-up on the importing process from my experience. I searched before importing and couldn’t really find anything explaining the FULL process, so here goes.

Vehicle Search/Purchase:

I used an importer (www.jdmconnection.ca) to find/import the vehicle for me.
He sent me daily listings of any vehicles that met my criteria.
If you are interested in a certain vehicle, they do a detailed inspection for you of the physical condition etc.
When you are ready to bid, just tell them your max budget and they bid on your behalf.
It took me about 3 months to find the right one.

Transit Times:

Approx. 12 days in transit from Japan to Vancouver.
Approx. 5 days to clear Canadian Customs.
Approx. 12 days transit from Vancouver to Toronto.

Registration:

After the purchase/import of the vehicle, you should receive a few packages from the exporter/importer with all necessary documents.

A few days before the vehicle was set to be picked up in Toronto, I got the vehicle registered/plated with a temporary (10 day) sticker.

After you get the car and get your Safety/Emissions done, head back to the ministry and get it registered with a proper dated sticker.

The ministry needed the following:

1st Visit (‘Temporary’ 10 day sticker):
• Japanese Export Certificate – Showing VIN, Vehicle Info, KMs, Registration (Original Copy and Translated Copy)
• Canada Customs “Form 1” (Yellow Form)
• Letter from Mazda confirming VIN matches year/make/model (Call Mazda Canada and have them mail to you, I had to call Mazda Canada for the dealership to help me)
• Insurance policy #

2nd Visit (‘Permanent’ dated sticker):
• Safety
• Emissions

I’ve heard it differs depending on where you go, I got mine done at the Markham Office @ 5694 Highway 7, Unit 2B, Sherwood Plaza, Markham ON L3P 1B4.

I would play it safe and bring all the documents that have just incase.

Thats about it.
Hope this helps.

I have the same one. It weighs a little less than touring edition.
