J-Spec Imports

I am looking at importing a RX7 from these guys and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

Also can anyone tell me what kind of fees I can expect to pay at the wharf when I pick the car up? I believe the car is listed a 9900 but havent tried to haggle with the guy.

i bought my FD from j-spec.
Their email replies are short and usually take entirely too long; which i assume is because they're understaffed and have a lot of inquiries. But once you send them their cut they'll hop on that **** mad fast.

After i sent them the money my car was on a boat within a week and arrived in canada shortly thereafter. While it was in transit they contacted a customs broker for me who called me up and asked if i needed a broker for handling the port inspections and that kind of thing. Seeing that i'm no where near the coast i decided to drop the $250 and let them handle it. They also got it on a train to MB for me.

Overall I'd give j-spec a 8/10 . Extremely well versed in what they're doing, very prompt with service and the featured cars they list on their site are almost all from reputable dealers they've dealt with before. My only beef was the lack of communication which can be a little nerve wrecking.

If u have any specific quesitons, let me know. Cheers

Thanks steve I will be contacting you.

Ben told me that the brokerage fees and shipping was included on the price on their site so how come you had to pay a broker?

I if thats all it costs for a broker I may pay it too. I would like to fly out there then drive it back and a broker might make it easier and faster at the wharf.

Your paying for brokerage there, not here. The J-spec price is to get it landed, not cleared through customs.

I wouldn't recommend driving it back. But thats just me. It usually seems like a good Idea at the time, but when your stranded in the middle of knowhere....

Yes ^
any price j-spec gives you is before it hits canadian soil. Once it's here it becomes your issue.
Also for the cost of gas and insurance; plus anything that might break along the way. You'd probably be better off shipping it via rail. My original plan was to pick it upa nd drive it back also, but it jsut doesn't make a lot of sense.
Also have to keep in mind that you don't really know what kind of mechanical condition it's in. If ur belts are worn and u blow em off while driving you could end up facing the cost of a new powersteering pump amoung other things (happened to me :P ) Plus driving a car through the mountains with worn wheel bearings or a buggered diff is gunna be a pain in the *** too.

Sorry for bumping an old thread. Just wondering if anyone else has had experience dealing with j-spec?

Edit: I'm just freaking out that I won't actually get to see the car in person and how heavily I have to rely on someone I don't know, who is trying to make money off me.

Its mid 2008 and billions of $$ of business is done online on these forums alone. You have to start somewhere. I was having a talk with a business colleague yesterday. With my level of online presence and experiences, he suggested to tap the Canadian market for 15years or old cars. What you can do to reduce your risk to do an in depth research. Pay a small fee for getting more info about the car, detailed pictures or pay a small fee for translating the auction house ratings sheet. If you are buying directly from a Japanese auction house, the house ratings are very solid and always performed by experienced technicians. Pay a small fee and get the sheet translated. No one wants to work for FREE. If you are serious and willing to pay for the translation, they will take your request more seriously. Its online world and full of time wasters. I wouldnt translate the auction document if I know you are not going to use our service. To assure service provider that you are serious and that you need to be taken serious, just make an offer for the translation service, they most probably wouldnt take the $20 but they will take you more seriously. The point is to do your home work seriously, spend time on it, pay attention to the details and most importantly, assure the service provider that you will not be wasting their time. Trust me, you would be a happy buyer like FD3Steve. GOOD LUCK

I bought my car through J-spec.

I highly recommend them.

The BEST way to contact them is via Skype (Text). They are on there 24/7. If they dont respond, its because they are dead - or just sleeping.

Craig's User name on skype is:

kakimoto33

its cheaper to call them on skype also

I have bought 3 cars from J-Spec. I dont have time to go into the details but i HIGHLY recommend these guys over any domestic dealer of other import companies.

Craig Moore is the man. I have gotten to know him very well over the last couple of years, great guy. Good honest business.

Look no further.

Regards,

=Ben

Why not buy one thats already landed? In the long run, its cheaper. They usually have rebuilt engines done by someone between the Port and here.

Don't worry, I'm keeping all my options open before I decide on a car lol.

But thanks for the replies guys. I scowered the net looking for any and all bad things about these guys. If there is anything bad about them, then it's not on the net.
