I've found something more fun than RX-7's
I am taking my Motorcycle training course this weekend, so in order to practice, I borrowed my uncle's Suzuki RM125. TWO STROKES KICK ***!!!
Did I mention that the thing has been sitting for a couple of years? So in order to get it running, I:
1: became the world's leading expert on Mikuni Round Slide Carbs. My next carburated project will be fed by 4 of them.
2. Cleaned a HUGE rats nest out of the air cleaner box
3. Kicked it over until the bottom of my right foot was literally blue.
However, in a day of riding I have managed to:
a) Kill all the mosquitoes in a 100 km radius
b) Launch it UP the stairs and into the garage
c) watch Mrs. Feds drive straight into a tree.
The thing takes off like a rocket. Sounds like a nitro-powered chainsaw. Smokes like the pile of tires in Hagersville.
Tomorrow we are going somewhere bigger than the back yard to see what gears 2-5 feel like.

I've discovered (already knew I guess) that:
a) I'm out of shape after pushing Fed's around his backyard on his new toy
b) the trailer lights need to be grounded in order to work
c) the protege can get over 650 kms to a tank, while pulling a trailer carrying a 2.0 litre 4 cyl motor and lots of parts.
d) I'm not welcome in Fenwick's hardware store again
friday night I drove to Barrie to pick up said motor, then to Gencarin to see my future project kit car, then to Fenwick (St. Catherines) to visit Fed's and wife. saturday I drove to Woodstock for a wedding. Sunday morning I drove to Waterloo to see brother, then back home to Peterborough.
long drive, I'm happy to be home

It's a really old bike, probably early 80's, and yeah, pretty much the factory race job. No lights/electrics at all. Just a kickstart and controls.
Mrs. Feds just about gave me a heart attack. She hit the tree and didn't get up. I sprinted across the yard and there she was... Laying on the ground laughing her head off.
Did I mention that it was out 1st anniversary? Best wife ever.

yeah, she ain't a bad catch at all

she's a little mentally unstable to be able to put up with you, but maybe she knows something the rest of us don't....
becareful there Carmichael wanna be. If you like two strokes you should start looking around for a suzuki 1986 Gamma 500. Or an old Honda NSR. Friend imported a NSR from japan for 5000 including freight.
The 1986 gamma was basically a motoGP street bike...

Thanks Al, I'll check that out.
I got the bike all the way to 3rd gear tonight. It's loud as hell, so I didn't want to spend too much time bombing through the neighbourhood.
My first attempt at carb cleaning was only partially successful. Seems it only runs on the "Starting" and the needle jets. The main jet is still plugged, so idle and 3/4 throttle are all that works. the rest of the time it bogs and dies.
3/4 throttle is enough for 3rd gear wheelies! Thanks again for the helmet Leight!!
The carb sits in a vat of varsol currently, waiting for a compressed air treatment. Tomorrow perhaps.

I knew there was something I was forgetting for this week.... Happy 1st Anniversary Mr. & Mrs. Feds!!!
1yr over and done with, and you tried to kill your wife on a bike! lol
Never a dull moment out in the boonies...
I've seen Feds drive a car, I can't imagine him on a bike! Get that life insurance policy done up Mrs. Feds!!! LOL

My God!!!! You have finally discovered the fun of dirt bikes. The Suzuki RM 125 is an old style motocross bike. As someone who owned more than my fair share (lets stroll through the past):
1) a Benelli 50cc
2) Hodaka Combat Wombat 100cc
3) Honda CR350 Twin (electric start and all 500 lbs of love)
4) Suzuki TS 250
5) Suzuki RM 250
6) A Can Am 250 (effectionately also known as the Orange Death as it tried to kill me more times than I can shake a stick at)
7) A BSA 650 Twin Dirt track racer
8) A Husqvarna CR125 (best bike ever)
I can say that they were a ton of crazy fun. Just be ready for more bruises and cuts and scrapes than you can imagine. Talk about carrying the front tire, the Can Am Orange Death machine would carry the front tire in 4th with no problems. If you want a wheelie machine get an old Kawi 750cc 2 stroke triple. It would lift the front tire at 100 mph no problem.
Got out of dirt bikes after falling off way too many times, having needles vibrate out of the main jet and lock the throttle wide open in 5th and running out of legal places to ride.
2 strokes are very cool and have the best power to weight characteristics.
Next you should find out that racing 2 stroke Karts are a super buzz as well, then drag racing is fun, then Solo 2 is fun, then Solo 1 is fun and finally that road racing is fun and it will be a full circle. LOL
Oh yes, happy anniversary as well. Was the Moose Buggy an anniversary present?

LOL... THanks,
Ms. Feds and I both passed the m2 test with flying colours (1 demerit each, out of 11 allowed).
Now to find a bike. I'm looking at early 80's GL500/650 Silverwings. Comfy, and not too fast.
Off to my local dealer tonight to try some other stuff on.
