info about tiger jdm

hey, I was just wondering if anybody knows or has heard anything about "Tiger Japanese Auto Parts LTD" www.tigerjapanese.com

http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/inde...85hlkuide26ih4

their in Toronto, they sell jdm engines, and jdm vehicals. But i haven't heard much about them, however they've been around since 1985. just curious if anybody has any feedback about them. are the reliable, good service/bad service, etc.

i've been researching various companies to import a vehical through or buy one thats already been imported, and tiger japanese has the best prices for vehicals already here, some of the vehicals look beat up which makes me worry though, but they seem to have a lot of buisness so they have to be a decent company.

anyway, if anyone has any info about them, good or bad, let me know.

From the few things I've heard, avoid them like the black plague. It would seem that every engine bought from them, dies almost immediatly. I believe Terrh bought a GTR and soon after spun a bearing or something along those lines. However you should do the research yourself, that's just what i've been reading.

For what it's worth, I got an FD engine from Total Japanese in Scarborough last winter and it runs well. I did a compression check there before I bought it however. Also, I pretty much just used the short block and turbos. I didn't notice any whole cars there however.

yeah, they fucked me over on my skyline.

I've bought motors several times from them in the past, most were fine except for the last one I got, which wasn't, and they didn't want to take it back.

Check out www.jdm-imports.com I almost bought a Skyline GTS-T type M before I decided to get the FB. They were at the track at MOTM this year with their Nismo GTR. Not very cheap, but generally you get what you pay for.

I have been importing cars for the last 10 years for my own personal use (my family has been importing cars to various parts of the world for about 25years) without ever having a single problem with any of my cars. Its sad to hear the same horror story from people over and over again.

for the love of God people... do not buy a car (JDM or not) based primarily on price.
People fall under the assumption that because the cars are coming from Japan and Japan has very strict policies and saftey standards (Shaken etc.)the cars must be in great shape.
The majority of the cars coming in are basket cases brought in by what used to be primarily used engine shops whose connections in Japan pretty much end at junkyards - the cars they bring over are primarily cars that have been sitting in a junkyard in Japan for years and will cost more than they are worth to put back on the road in Japan. Guess what? They will cost even more to make roadworty once they are in Canada! Nobody is doing you a favor by selling you a cheap JDM import.

A good clean GTR in Japan will cost upwards of 17.000 CAD. My last one was a 30,000km one owner gem with every single reciept for gas that was ever put in, had the original sales agreement papers and every single recipt, as well as documentation of it being owend by a very prominent figure in Nissan corp.

You cannot buy a decent GTR in Japan for $9000, period. Any shop that is selling you one landed in Canada for that price has compromised somewhere - you guess where its going to be.

Good luck with your search!

If your looking for a fully properly working/functional JDM car, I highly recommend www.jdm-imports.com they have brought in some real nice fd's, gtr's, s14's, gc8's, supra's, basically anything. Refer to Mitch if you would like more information, excellent guy to deal with. Also +1 for their FD's =)

I've had a few friends with great results importing directly with a company in Japan. www.japanautodirect.com Ask for Danny, he speaks like 4 languages: English, Chinese, Spanish, and Japanese. The company is based in Tokyo or Yokohama, forgot, and since there is no broker, the cost is wayyy cheaper. As for the cars, they arrived in the condition as described.

Echoing what 1991Cosmo said, the better condition the car or lower mileage, the more expensive it will be. However, cars for export are also acquired through car auctions, which doesn't necessarily mean they're junkyard-bound vehicles lol.

Best of luck

I might have been a little unclear.
Yes most reputable exporters obtain their cars through auctions.
Engine shops that have recently become dealerships to make a quick buck do not .. they obtain their cars mainly from the same junkyard contacts they buy their engines from.

Thanks

every skyline that tiger had was purchased at auction.

I had my auction sheet translated and there was engine damage disclosed, tiger bought it, put thick oil in it so the noise would disappear, and then sold it to me as a "mint running car".

Ouch!
That really sucks. Is there no legal action you could take since the car was so grossly misrepresented?

I'm suprised they gave you the actual auction sheet that stated the car had engine trouble. lots of places (especially in Quebec) get blank auction sheets and just fill them in themselves. Blank auction sheets are extremely easy to get form the aucton houses in Japan, and must not replace a through examination of the car.
I am suprised that Tiger gets them from auctions.

Out of curiosity what was the auction grade on the car? If it had serious engine issues it should have been rated as such...Altho auction houses slip up quite a bit on grading as well. Its funny how some cars are rated as 3 one week then the next week they become a 4.5. lol

The really nice cars are rarely found at auctions, I very rarely buy any of mine from a auctions. The best ones are usually found by having someone you know in Japan find one for you from a private individual with service records, past shaken documents, etc. and throughtly inspect the car (auction cars in Japan very rarely have much in the way of service records). And if you do get one with service records have your contact EMS you the documents rather than leave them in your car or they will get stolen and sold by some lowlife in shipping.

sorry I always get carried away talk turns to JDM's becaue I hate it when people get burned needlessly.

If you guys ever have any questions about a JDM car you are thinking about getting feel free to pm me. I have been through the process enough times that I'm quite sure I have been through every hurdle imaginable (having cars seized by US customs in the name of homeland security included, lol!) so I may be able to shed some light.

yes importing from japan is definitely the way to go for these kind of cars,
I haven't heard about Tiger but I managed to pull a quality RX7 out of www.japanautodirect.com
It was pretty nervy at the beginning but I took the plunge and found I got what I wanted ,ordered and paid for.
