Well, its been a very long time since I have posted anything on this site. Real life and work have kept me swamped for the last few years. A number of the newer guys may not know me or the "Pig", but after being in storage for a few years after the motor was destroyed by one of my co-drivers... I have some time to put it back together and go racing again. The car was winning races and the last race it completed, it finished 1st in Class and 6th overall in the 3 hour Indian Summer Trophy Races. Car in storage in a hanger.
So what is going on with it and why have I parked it for 5 years...
When the motor died, it died in a big way. My co-driver say idling on the mock grid during a red flag, overheated it, ran it dry of water and then ran a 20 minute race. The car was running right up until it was shut down. I think the great Millers Oil, kept it alive. When the motor was taken apart, both rotors were beaten up pretty badly, both outer irons had become so hot, there was metal transfer along the face of them. The bearings had spun in both rotors, causing them to wobble and scuff the center housing and fish eye the gears in both rotors and the stationary gears. So after examining all the parts, I was left with 2 good housings, a good eccentric shaft and a usable center plate and everything else that bolts to the keg. I was looking at major $$$$ to try to put it all back together again. I just decided to focus on my Cougar and regular life and store the car for later. Remember, the car is perfect other than the dead keg.
Now its later. I want to go racing in the car again and I want to rebuild the keg using the parts that I have, plus score some new S5 NA rotors. What my plan is for the motor, is I want to try something different. I have a number of S4 6 Port Irons lying around and am intrigued by making them full BP 6 Ports. Supposedly, this gives me almost the same port opening of a PP, but with less power due to the bends the airflow has to take getting into the chamber. I will have to adapt the irons to suit my 4 throat ITB setup and there will be some grinding on the manifold, but the power numbers I have been reading are very very interesting. I have already spoken with a builder, who will work with me to build the setup, I just have to start bringing him over the parts. I am very excited about where this will end up as I have a garage full of parts and tires and can't wait to race the "Pig" again. Oh, I needed a new nose as I was just annoyed with trying to adapt my shattered AWR nose or some butchered stock nose, so I purchased some Ebay nose for a couple of hundred bucks and it fits decently well! Just adding a proper splitter to it.
I will keep you guys informed as I put everything together again and the goal is to get the car on track again this year and a race season next year.
Oh and the results of its last race weekend, the car lead the race overall, based on pace, until the drizzle stopped and we slid back to where we finished, but still first in GT4!
