It's not like you can call and say : hey these people on the forum pay less then me! lol
but here it goes:
I pay about 485$ a year for my FD, that's just liability and theft/vandalism, no comprehensive coverage. and that's with a 500$ decuctible I think, or maybe that's 1000$. I usually always ask for the highest deductible unless the price difference is really low. But I figure if you're not gonna file a claim for 500$, would you really do it for 1000$? For a 500$ difference, your rates will go up for years to come. Not worth it in my book.

Ever wondered why insurance companies are mostly owned by banks? Insurance is nothing more that financing.
You crash: instead of forking out 5000$ for repairs, they'll lend you the money and charge you a monthly fee.
Say you used to pay 500$ a year, it'll go up to 1300$ for 6 or 7 years. That's a difference of 800$/year for 7 years = 5600$
Consider that 600$ of interest on a 5000$ loan = 12% interest (not yearly but over those 7 years)

So, not only did they not loose anything (your initial 5000$ has been returned to them) but they even MADE money off it. Not a bad deal (for them).

But I guess you'd pay more interest if you borrowed that 5000$ at like 8% interest (yearly).

If you didn't have insurance at all the you borrowed 5000$ at 8% interest a year it would be cheaper

Antique Status for Insurance

Jim Chung, do the insurance companies need any documentation like an appraisal to classify the car as an antique? I have an 1981 1st Gen. Thanks.

$280 Full coverage, 84 gsl. Insured by Perth through Ontario West Insurance Brokers. I'm 22 with one speeding ticket which should be gone next april. 132km/h in 100. Oddly enough I have more training than most people on the road and it doesn't seem to matter at all. One company I called didn't even know what an "A" license is.

O.M.G, my total policy cost for 95FD is $5099.3 ($425/month) from State Farm. I'm 24, no ticket, not even parking ticket, 6 year clean driving history in canada....but i'm a foreigner here...

liability 1,000,000; $500 deductible comprehensive; $1000 Deductible Collision or Upset; ...did I do anything wrong?

'85 GSL SE - $183/year (classified as specialty vehicle). Company is AVIVA and the broker was Lantz & Co from Stouffville.

Very restrictive policy; ie, agent warned me "Must have another daily driver, must be stored during winter months.... not able to use the car to go golfing or pick up the kids from school".

Lucky me.... I don't golf or have children.

1988 Rx7 > 50 yrs old and no accidents. Just 2 "did commit the offense of speeding" offences.

$70.00 a month > Liability only. If I want comprehensive-fire & theft T.D. Home and Auto require an appraisal at my expense to get more coverage.
Funny, last year the rate was the same, yet I had full coverage and no appraisal was necessary.
I will be shopping for someone else to throw my insurance $$ at when my policy comes up for renewal.

my 86 gxl is fully insured under Lant & company silver wheel plan. Certain restrictions apply ie 10 yr clean record, no driving to work, another vehicle insured under my etc. As I only drive this for fun and it only costs $165.00 per year I love it.

damn, how are all of you getting insurance for so cheap.
i just got quoted from two different insurance agencies, one of them being TD, and to get full coverage on a 93 FD and an 02 dakota, it would cost me around $750 a month/ $9100 a year.
i'm getting hosed

forget about TD.
The secret is to go to a (or many) BROKER(s). Remember that word "broker", it's your wallet's favorite !

lol

Can you get your A without a Z (Or maybe people just try their best to get them over with at the same time)? I assume you have a Z as well. Imagine whipping that out to them. "Yeah. I'm an A-Z licensed driver ... no joke! It's a real license!".

Usually the penalties for traffic violations are worse for A licensed drivers because they have a superior license and are expected to always be driving their best even if they are just driving their G class vehicles. Although the police also tend to give you the benefit of the doubt in an accident (Obviously depending on some factors). Or at least that's our experience in my family. Big trucks eat Honda's for breakfast.

I got a quote from my government insurance for $385/month liability only (aka ... bullshit). But that was for Niagara Falls. I'm told insurance rates are nice and high there. I should call back and see what it is for when I'm living in Waterloo.

When I told her it was a 1987 RX7 and she asked me which model it was she listed off the S5 trims. It threw me for a loop for a second.

Brokers are great. Especially if you're insuring multiple vehicles. Plus, there are plenty of places to shop around.

Are those vehicles under your name or your parents?

That's the only advice I have to a younger person looking to buy a car. If you can, get it under your parents name!
